Kokoo Pa Farmers Association

Kokoo Pa Farmers Association The association is now registered legally as an independent farmer organization with functional constitution and governance structure.

Kookoo Pa Farmers Association (formerly known as AHANSUCOFA) was formed in 2009 by cocoa farmers from an initial 10 communities in the Ahafo Ano North and Ahafo Ano South districts in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Its formation was inspired by a training initiative by West Africa Fair Food (WAFF) now known as Solidaridad West Africa with an initial 352 farmers on sustainable cocoa practices based o

n UTZ certified standard. Facilitated by the then Country Manager in charge of cocoa, Vincent Frimpong Manu and the Project Manager, Fred Amponsah, the farmers decided to form an independent, vibrant and strong farmer organization to ensure that they produce cocoa in a more environmentally sustainable, socially responsible and economically viable manner. Its current membership is around 8600 farmers, 5676 men and 2924 women in 7 districts in the Ashanti, Brong, Ahafo, and Western regions. About eighty five percent of the members are UTZ certified since 2010. Under the cocoa livelihood project, the farmers receive support in the form of improved planting materials (cassava and plantain) and food crop gaps to promote household food security and additional income. Gender empowerment is at the fore of Kookoo Pa’s livelihood activities and women farmers receive training that will empower them in addition to practical training in nutritional needs. OUR MISSION

📍KOKOO PA NEWS UPDATE
We harvested organic vegetables from our demonstration site at Mankranso. This harvest was done by our farmers.

The farmers, especially women play a major role in every activity that goes on at the site. Vegetables that were harvested are pepper, carrot, cucumber and lettuce.

These are hybrid type of vegetables. The varieties are high yielding with superior fruit quality, enhanced disease and pest resistance and better adaptation to environmental conditions.

This was funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)-FFF Direct Beneficiary Grant.

KOKOO PA AND FOREST AND FARM FACILITY (FFF) ORGANIZES GRASSROOT MEETING FOR FARMERS IN BIBIANI AND ADANSI SOUTH DISTRICTS OF GHANA

Kokoo Pa have benefited immensely from the FFF project by UNFAO since 2019. The project has helped Kokoo Pa improve its sustainable multiple forest and farm livelihoods for increased income and climate resilience, building on the lessons of the FFF supported activities since 2019

The Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) has supported efforts in Ghana to improve tree tenure security for farmers, particularly in cocoa agroforestry systems, by promoting the registration of on-farm trees and advocating for a national framework to allow farmers to secure ownership rights and benefit from naturally occurring trees on their land.

Kokoo Pa has been supported with tree seedlings and has distributed quantities of desirable shade trees seedlings for cocoa. The challenge however, is that most farmers are still unaware of tree registration policy that leads to tree ownership. Therefore the one day grassroot meeting organized in Bibiani and Adansi south districts to educate and sensitize Kokoo Pa members on the tree tenure policy and registration process, importance and benefits of tree registration to motivate them to take good care of their planted tree seedlings and address questions bothering them in this area. And also sensitize members on the cooperative concept, reasons why Kokoo Pa is transitioning into cooperative union and its benefits, and to emphasize on the need to adopt good sanitation practices like handwashing, proper waste management, and safe water use to improve their health, productivity, and farm yields.

The resource persons invited were the forestry commission, the environmental health agency, and the Ghana cooperative union representatives in the Bibiani and Adansi south districts.
Kokoo Pa farmers now see the double benefits of protecting trees and practicing good sanitation for better income, healthier families, and sustainable farms. The collaboration between the Forestry Officer and Environmental Health Officers created a holistic approach to community development, leaving farmers more informed and motivated to act.

A total number of 73 farmers with 32 males and 41 females participated in the meeting.

This training was funded by the FAO-FFF Direct Beneficiary Grant.

WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR - 12TH JUNE, 2025!
The purpose of the celebration is to help create broader awareness of child labour by accelerating efforts to eliminate the worst forms of child labour as a matter of urgency and to work progressively towards the total elimination of all forms of child labour as enshrined in Target 8.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 12th of June has been set aside by the International Labour Organization and its Constituents, since 2002, to mark the World Day Against Child Labour.

This year’s theme “Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: Let’s speed up efforts!”. The theme urges unambiguous, coordinated, and persistent actions to guarantee that every child has access to play, education, and a safe childhood.

The commemoration sought to highlight the plight of victims of child labour, especially those in the worst forms of child labour. It provides the platform to stimulate the commitment of partners: government, employers’ and workers’ organizations, civil society groups, research institutions, opinion leaders, teachers, parents, children and development partners to protect and support children to develop their full potential and harness their abilities and capabilities.

Kokoo Pa Cooperative Farmers Union reaffirms our commitment in helping to reduce the cases of child labour down to its barest minimum. We urge governments and all relevant stakeholders and agencies to continue to take action against child labour to secure the right and future of our children.
