Grand Turk is the capital island of the Turks and Caicos, its historical heartbeat, and home to a state of the art luxury cruise ship center. It is here that Christopher Columbus first made landfall on his initial voyage to the New World in 1492. Almost 500 years later, US astronaut John Glenn “discovered” Grand Turk himself, after he became the first American man to orbit the earth.

One of Grand Turk’s main attractions is diving. With its many dive operators it can cater to novice snorkelers to experienced divers. There is an outstanding protected coral reef, which drops to 8,000 feet and is close enough to shore for beach dives.

The most popular excursion just off Grand Turk is Gibbs Cay where visitors can enjoy an uninhabited island, a picnic on the beach and a chance to feed the beautiful stingrays who swim right up to shore.

The eighteenth-century Villa Oleandra in Laglio is the very well-known summer residence of George Clooney, who since 2002 has chosen this quiet village located on the western shore of Como Lake to spend his vacations, sometimes in the company of other Hollywood celebrities.

Obviously, the presence of Clooney brought a little of hustle in Laglio, that suddenly has became a destination for an army of paparazzi, fans and the merely meddlers to the point that the City Council has approved an ad hoc regulation to protect the privacy of the actor.

During the twentieth century Villa Oleandra was sold to American owners, the last of which was the family of the billionaire John Heinz.

In the summer of 2001, the heirs of the "King of ketchup" provided aid for the lost George Clooney, jilted by his Harley-Davidson just outside the gates of the villa.

The American actor, who was taking a ride on the mighty Alps aboard his motorcycle, fell in love at first sight of Villa Oleandra, especially because of the breathtaking view that you could see from its windows, and soon decided to buy it for about 10 million dollars.

Since then, the door of the luxury building, located in Via Vecchia Regina 20 and surrounded by a large botanical garden, was crossed by numerous Hollywood celebrities, all guests of George Clooney, including Cindy Crawford, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas.

Chora the capital of Amorgos is a medieval mountain village 400 metres above the sea surrounded by windmills. Chora is dominated by a 13th century Venetian castle, the historic rock has had built into it for more than fifteen centuries the church of Kera Leousa (Lady of mercy).

To walk in Chora is like stepping in the dream of the perfect Greek village with its narrow winding alleys, whitewashed houses, charming squares and a lot of beautiful churches. You have also a big selection of nice and cosy taverns, café and shops.
The village is near to the Monastery of Hozoviotissa and the beach of Agia Anna with its clear waters.

Amorgos: The Monastery of Hozoviotissa and The Big Blue movie location

The Monastery of Hozoviotissa in Amorgos is the second oldest in Greece built in 1017. It is literally hanging on the cliff side 300 m above the sea. The monastery was created as an ode to the Grace of Panagia, known as the Virgin Mary, which is the patron saint of the island. The icon is carried around to all the villages on the island every year.

A perfect blend of nature and the beauty of man’s creation, the monastery symbolizes man’s tribute to the Holy Mother. Built into the face of a cliff, it provides a breathtaking view of the sparkling blue waters of the Aegean Sea. It is with no doubt, the pride of Amorgos, with its pristine walls lined with portraits of monks and other leaders, the smell of incense and numerous little treasures. The monks, who act as guardians of this architectural marvel, serving psimeni raki (a local liqueur) and loukoumi.

The beach below the monastery boasts of the most brilliant blue waters humans could have laid eyes upon. It is just a 40 minute walk down from the monastery, but can also be reached by either boat or, for the more adventurous, a long swim from the Agia Anna beach. Agia Anna, on the contrary, is one of the best, most accessible beaches on Amorgos. Tourists flock to this beach for its brilliant location and of course, the Hozoviotissa Monastery.

The first thing one notices when entering the Gulf of Aegiali is the purity of the light in the vivid contrast it creates between the pristine white houses and the intense “Big Blue” of the Aegean.

Mykonos Island, Greece 🇬🇷

Add to your summer vacation guide!

Protected from wind, Ornos beach is situated in front of a small fishing village, 2.5 km south of town and is the closest beach to the capital, with fine sand and sun beds and umbrellas for rent.

It is a really beautiful beach but, fortunately, it is not always overcrowded. A diving school as well as schools for sea-skiing and windsurfing are available on the beach.

On the shore of the bay a hotel complex offers various restaurants and bars. Ornos is reachable by local bus, frequently leaving from the capital. The view from this beach is really good, looking up to houses perched precariously on the cliff.

Unbelievable! We tested it! Voyagenio travel blog helps you to obtain a unique and exclusive opportunity to book any luxury suite at Royalton hotels in Punta Cana 🇩🇴 , Cancun 🇲🇽 Jamaica 🇯🇲 or Saint Lucia 🇱🇨 up to 50% cheaper than at Booking.

Photos: Royalton Negril, Jamaica 🇯🇲.

A warm reception and chilled cocktails set the tone for the perfect vacation at Royalton Negril, complete with modern room features, reservation-free dining at more than six restaurants, and entertainment for any age.

Sitting on a breathtaking clear water beach, this resort masterfully blends Jamaica’s unique culture with a luxury product featuring top quality service, great attention to detail, and exceptional personalized service.

Of all the amazing places to visit in the Caribbean, very few have that perfect combination of ingredients to make an amazing trip like Negril, Jamaica. In addition to amazing beaches, you can find great food, friendly people and plenty of things to do to keep as busy as you want. No matter where you take a trip in the Caribbean you really can’t go too wrong, but here is why we think Negril is the best.

Without a doubt, the biggest draw to Negril is its massive stretch of beautiful white sand beach. Negril is home to one of the longest beaches in all of Jamaica called “Seven Mile Beach,” which as you might have guessed is nearly seven miles of uninterrupted sand.

The beach in Negril gradually gives way to the Caribbean sea and where they meet is the perfect shade of blue. Running the entire length of the beach and a few hundred feet out to see the water is the color of paradise. The light colored sand reflects the bright sun’s rays making the water turquoise for as far as you can see.

Jamaicans are some of the warmest and friendly people you’ll come across in the Caribbean. You’ll also find that many are passionate about their country and culture, and are happy to share it with visitors.

Where the beaches end they give way to tall, rocky cliffs on the west end of town that tower over the turquoise waters at a height of 30-50 feet in some areas. There are plenty of spots where the brave can leap off into the warm Caribbean water, but no place is more famous than Rick’s Cafe. Situated on a tall cliff in the part of town the locals call the “West End,” Rick’s is a great place to spend an afternoon watching people cliff jump.

Jamaica is known for its waterfalls and from Negril, all of the country’s best are easy to tick off on a day trip. Mayfield and YS waterfalls are right in Negril’s back yard. Dunn’s River Falls, Jamaica’s most impressive set of waterfalls, is a bit further but worth the trip.

The voice of Bob Marley and laid back reggae beats are the rhythm of life in Negril. You can’t venture too far down the beach without hearing it. The beach and surrounding resorts in Negril often host live concerts from big name reggae artists.

Situated on the very western tip of Jamaica, Negril is blessed with amazing nightly sunsets. Every day the sun melts into the Caribbean sea straight off the shores of Negril. Grab a Red Stripe and enjoy the show.

If you've ever dreamed of the castaway experience or having a private island of your own - and who hasn’t, at least once? Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas offers the opportunity to fulfill that fantasy.

Half Moon Cay - the private island in the Bahamas that Carnival and Holland America share - looks like a movie set of a beach. The sand is pristinely white, with nary a scratchy shell or untoward piece of seaweed. The sea is warm, but not too warm, and turquoise, just like all the postcards you see of Caribbean beaches that you always assumed were fake. The cabanas are painted in bright, happy colors, and the bars have quaint thatched roofs and inviting Adirondack chairs - or are set inside a faux pirate ship.

You don't need to be on your honeymoon, but if you want to get away from the crowds and the noise, head for the far end of the beach (to your right). Past the last lifeguard stand, you'll find a stand of trees with hammocks and shade - and far fewer humans. Beyond that, you've got the beach mostly to yourself until the horseback riders come through. Just use caution when swimming.

At 10 square kilometers (four square miles), the island is small enough that you can see it all in a day, yet large enough to offer a range of activities: horseback riding, snorkeling with stingrays, a range of water sports and, of course, simply lounging on the beach while taking occasional dips in the clear sea to cool off. At the island’s Straw Market, you can shop for crafts made in the Bahamas, while the waterfront bars and Tropics Restaurant are ready to serve you a meal or drink when you've finished surveying your private paradise.

Montezuma is located on the very southern coast of the Nicoya Peninsula. This area of the country is more remote, making Montezuma a little difficult to get to and, therefore, not overly crowded. The people who make the trek are typically a mixture of backpackers, young families, and couples looking for a romantic getaway. The draws of Montezuma are its many quiet beaches, thick forest, and wildlife like monkeys, butterflies, and birds. One of the things that makes it unique is its almost bohemian feel.

Probably the most popular activity in Montezuma are the waterfalls just south of town. The Montezuma Waterfalls are a set of three cascades that have something for everyone. While some just relax or picnic at the largest waterfall (almost 80 feet tall), more adventurous types jump and swim at the other two. The falls can be visited in two different ways. One includes a cool hanging bridge and the other goes up the riverbed.
