Our own kakavia fish soup
shellfish, baby vegetables, fish stock from the fisherman’s soup
It is said that when man invented fire, boiling was the first method he discovered to process his food. Mankind’s first soups originate from those ancient broths, where with just a few ingredients man always managed to quash his hunger while, at the same time, vitalizing his body.
In similar fashion, the first fisherman’s soup –which was named ‘kakavia’ from the ancient Greek word ‘kakavi’, namely the large tripod cooking pot in which fishermen would boil their fish– was most probably born on a Greek caique or on a hospitable beach.
The original kakavia recipe calls for only those ingredients that the fishermen were able to carry with them: namely, olive oil and onions. Today, the recipe has been enriched with additional ingredients.
Our own kakavia is one of our gastronomic suggestions for the 2019 season at Ocean Restaurant, at Sentido Port Royal Villas & Spa Hotel.
