The yard is full of them! 🙂 The caterpillar of the "Spurge hawk-moth" (Lat. "Hyles euphorbiae"), a nocturnal moth from the Sphingidae family.
Here are a few interesting facts about this fascinating insect:
Appearance: It is incredibly striking due to its bright colors – a combination of red, black, yellow, and white dots. On the back of its body, it has a characteristic red "horn" with a black tip, which is typical for caterpillars of the hawk-moth family (this horn is completely harmless).
Diet:The picture clearly shows it on a plant from the spurge genus (*Euphorbia*). These plants are toxic and filled with milky sap, but the caterpillar feeds on them without any issues. The bright colors on its body actually serve as a warning to predators (like birds) that it is toxic and unpalatable.
📙 Future Moth: Once it completes its caterpillar and pupa stages, it will transform into a large, fast, and excellent flyer – the Spurge hawk-moth. 🦋
Even though it looks a bit "alien" and dangerous due to its colors and horn, it is completely harmless to humans‼️

🌊 If you see sea urchins, please don't run away or kill them. They are protected, so they shouldn't be removed or harmed. Plus, they only live in perfectly clean water—just like the sea around our house.
