As the island gently prepares to surrender to the Nyepi silence, Bali begins its sacred passage through the Melasti ceremony.

To the Balinese, the ocean is a sacred space where they wash ancient temple relics in Tirta Amerta, the «water of life». The word Melasti itself means to wash away the weight of the past year. It is a sacred ritual of purification and a moment to begin a new cycle with a light heart.
