🦪 When a pontoon becomes part of the habitat…
Great to see our work with Ulster Wildlife at Glenarm Marina featured in the latest issue of Fore & Aft, published by THE YACHT HARBOUR ASSOCIATION (TYHA).
Working with Ulster Wildlife, our team adapted one of our standard leisure pontoons to incorporate a submerged platform for a native oyster nursery – creating space for 5,000 juvenile oysters, while retaining the pontoon’s full berthing function.
The innovative design has enabled Ulster Wildlife to deploy around 10 times more oysters at the site, with encouraging early results.
It’s a great example of what can be achieved when marina infrastructure and nature-inclusive design come together – delivering practical infrastructure while creating opportunities to support marine biodiversity.
Well done to our Project Engineer Kevin Treacy, who led the design, and to the team at Ulster Wildlife for bringing such an interesting brief to us.
