Thomas Breathnach is here with a travel slot featuring Ireland’s islands!
1. Cape Clear & West Cork Islands
Ireland's southernmost community, Oileáin Chléire is Cork's only Gaeltacht Island and is located off the coast of Baltimore in West Cork
Where to stay: there's a camping and glamping site on the island as well as some lovely B&B's and AirBnbs.
2. Tory
One of my absolute favourites, Ireland's most remote inhabited island, Tory off Donegal makes an incredible escape and it's even very doable for a one night stay away!
Where to stay: the great value Tory Island hotel has rooms from €135 or just €85 if you are a solo travellers.
3. Inishturk
For a totally unplugged and undiscovered island, why not head to Mayo's Inishturk, located 15kms off the coast!
Where to stay: the island's tourism co-op (nice idea!) has created two new holiday homes and they are really trying to put the island on the map and to attract visitors
4. Aran Islands
Arguably the most iconic of them all, we'll offer a snappy guide on the best things to do and see as well as where to stay and the importance of booking early!
5. The Saltees
You can day-trip to if you don't want to invest the time or money into an overnight escape. This time of year makes an excellent time to visit the Saltees as the puffins are about to arrive. How to get there: from Kilmore Quay in Wexford
