What are the benefits for everyone involved in Social Farming?
What the farmer achieves:
It is very rewarding, we are very happy supporting people and seeing the difference it makes in people's lives. Participants bring a renewed energy onto the farm; they are so happy to be there. We have developed new friendships and connections, both from participants and staff from support services. Social farming also complements the time we spend doing the jobs on our farm - we get our tasks done, but with company!
Benefits for participants:
Social farming can create pathways for participants and can offer opportunities for self-development, employment, or to pursue new interests. Participants learn new skills on the farm; this enhances their growth and development. This is achieved through meaningful activities which build their self-esteem and confidence.
Our farm creates a real-world environment for participants to test and explore positive risk-taking. The effects on their mental health and well-being are also improved; this is from spending time in the fresh air working with nature and farm animals. Many of our participants are also trying to pursue independent lives or develop a greater capacity within their homes or communities - this program can help them in this journey.
