Spring was welcomed the traditional Japanese way on February 3rd at , with the celebration of Setsubun (節分).
The evening unfolded with the joyful chant of “Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!”, as guests took part in the symbolic bean-throwing ritual to ward off negativity and invite good fortune. Honouring tradition, soybeans were enjoyed for health and prosperity in the year ahead.
To complete the experience, guests savoured Ehomaki sushi rolls eaten whole, in silence, while facing the auspicious direction of the year just as the custom intends.
It was a meaningful celebration of culture, symbolism, and fresh beginnings.
