POSITION of EXPERIENCED LODGE MANAGER

Hi there. We, at Shyok River Lodge, are looking for a hospitality manager. This is a unique chance for someone who is fascinated by remote cultures and Himalayan landscapes. If you like to be part of the gentle soothing rhythm of a Ladakhi village sitting serenely amidst rugged, utterly beautiful mountainous, then this is the job for you.

This job is a relaxed, socially engaging affair as you will get to meet interesting people from all over Europe and sometimes from India as well. Shyok village is literally one of the last of the traditional villages that continue with the old timeless village routines such as sowing, ploughing and harvesting collectively as a village.

Your job responsibilities will include overseeing the smooth running of the kitchen and cleaning staff (3 people), making the guest feel at home and also taking the guests out on educational village and nature walks. The latter is a very important part of your job and should not be underestimated. In order to do so, you will be expected to study and understand traditional Ladakhi village life and acquire some knowledge about ecology and wildlife as well.

The job will be for only 3 months starting from 15th July till 15th October. We would prefer Ladakhi candidates but we are open to someone from outside Ladakh as well, especially if the person is keenly interested in Ladakhi culture and this kind of experiential work!

SHYOK RIVER LODGE OPEN AGAIN

You may have been wondering… But yes Shyok River Lodge is opening soon again, although a bit later than usual.
From June 1st onwards the doors are open for those who are interested in experiencing and learning about traditional Ladakh village life, local flora and wildlife, and the unique cultural ecology that binds them.
Our staff Chusket, Sombu and Umesh will make sure you’ll thoroughly enjoy the homely pleasures of our little haven between the Karakoram and Himalayas.

SETTING UP SRL for the new season with our unwavering staff, foremost Chusket and Sunil. It is such a joy to work along these committed, hard-working and positive-minded people.

Repairing the cracks caused by an earthquake a year ago, repainting and putting new carpet in the dining.

Our first guest, the Kulkarni family from Bombay, reached. It was a pleasure having them.

TRAVEL TO INDIA HAS BECOME EVEN EASIER
The Government of India today issued new guidelines for International travelers to India. As per these guidelines, no quarantine will be required on arrival in India and there will be no differentiation between the travelers on the basis of “at risk” countries anymore.
Also, International travelers from 82 countries are allowed to upload a certificate of full vaccination instead of a negative RT-PCR report obtained 72 hours prior to boarding.
These countries include those which have an agreement with India on mutual recognition of vaccination certificates of nationally recognized or WHO recognized vaccines or those which provide quarantine-free entry to Indian citizens. The list includes most western countries, the USA and Canada.

Dear friends and future visitors.

As you may have understood there is a border issue with China that plays out not too far from Shyok. Therefore we are not allowed to receive any guests till further notice.

Regrettably, judging from the way things are going at present (talks about troops withdrawal between India and China) we don't expect to be able to open up this summer.

Hopefully, we can receive you again next summer.
