les are freshly plucked from our organic kitchen garden, our bread and jams are homemade, and the exquisite weaves that bedeck the rooms are all the handiwork of local women from nearby village communities. The excellent bird- and animal-spotting by our naturalists, the smiling faces of our dedicated staff, a lavish breakfast on the banks of the river, a graceful traditional dance by the local tea tribes in the evening, and the dimming of lights in the entire premises of the lodge after sunset in order to watch the animals that come to drink from the river are just some of the little details that make the Diphlu River Lodge the best choice for accommodation in Kaziranga National Park.

The last four days, Assam has been on a standstill because of the death of Zubeen Garg - our most beloved singer, composer and cultural icon who carried the sound of Assam far beyond its borders.

He didn’t just sing; he shone a light on all of us, giving voice to our valleys, rivers and spirit. His passing has brought together what is being called the fourth-largest public gathering in the world - an unprecedented farewell that has united our people in grief and gratitude.

It’s a powerful reminder that music brings all of us together, across boundaries and generations.

These gentle giants are our constants, and life simply wouldn’t be the same without them. What a privilege it is to have these beauties roam wild beside us, as our wild hearted souls too, would be forever changed without their presence.

Our precious natural habitats should always be clean and pristine. Wouldn’t you like to see it be so?!

We do our regular cleaning of these tourist view points of the national park and keep designated litter areas so that we can collect and dispose of it responsibly. Yet, each time it is sad to see that it never gets better.

Is it so hard to clean up after yourself? Is it so hard to NOT throw that plastic bottle or chips packet out the car window? Is it so hard to take your own picnic trash away with you?

It ought to be our collective passion, our everyday habit and duty as humans to be clean, keep your surroundings cleaner and your beautiful nature, the cleanest it can ever be.

We have had such a wonderfully productive September gearing up for the upcoming season whilst also hosting a couple of naturalist-training workshops & cleaning awareness drives with the young boys and girls of Kaziranga and neighbouring areas.

We hosted a 3-day naturalist guiding workshop at Diphlu River Lodge in Kaziranga national park.

Our self-funded ABN Foundation of Assam Bengal Navigation contributes 5% of each room proceeds to our 3 pillars focused on education, environment and community development projects and/or to change makers within the riverine communities.

We are back on track to host more of such workshops to educate and offer on-the-field experience to young enthusiasts who want to contribute the same to their communities.

‘A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.’ These new trees will be the foundation of regenerative tourism in leaving the place not just as it is but so much better than we found it.

It is absolutely fair to say that we are utterly in love with these real-life unicorns of the Indian sub-continent.

We are grateful for these gentle giants having saved vast green stretches of Assam from concrete soul-wrenching destruction just by their very existence. Cultivating their presence in abundance puts Assam, in northeast India in a prominent position for the protection of these real-life unicorns. May we always protect, preserve and regenerate natural habitats for our unicorns and our souls 🙏

It ought to be everyday! 🦏
