Siamo costernati dal post apparso nelle scorse settimane sulla pagina instagram di una travel blogger americana (): tale contenuto inserirebbe Monterosso al Mare come uno dei luoghi meno sicuri per una donna di colore.
Monterosso viene descritta come un luogo dove i ristoratori si rifiuterebbero di far entrare le persone di colore, dove, sempre a causa di tale motivazione, non gli sarebbe stato possibile camminare in certi luoghi, mentre ad altri era concesso, e dove gli sarebbe stato negato un lettino in spiaggia a causa del colore della pelle.
Crediamo che la descrizione di un luogo di questo tipo, ovunque esso si trovi, faccia rabbrividire chiunque, ma a maggior ragione siamo amareggiati nel sapere che queste righe vorrebbero comunicare e descrivere quello che è il nostro territorio.
Qui basta affacciarsi da un qualsiasi angolo del paese per notare il pacifico mescolarsi dei vari colori e percorre un qualsiasi vicolo per incrociare volti, lingue, sembianze e lineamenti differenti.
Le Cinque Terre stanno vivendo, come ben sappiamo, un notevole aumento del flusso turistico: non riuscire a trovare un lettino in spiaggia all’ultimo momento è una conseguenza di questo fatto e non è certamente correlabile ad un fenomeno grave, da combattere e da stigmatizzare come il razzismo.
Ogni anno le nostre vie sono percorse da persone provenienti da tutto il mondo, il turismo che ci interessa è il più variegato che si possa immaginare, la nostra comunità è ormai formata da lavoratori, cittadini e residenti di diverse nazionalità, che a Monterosso hanno trovato una seconda casa, che per i loro figli è diventata la prima.
Il nostro Comune ha sottoscritto, fra i primi in Italia, la Carta dei diritti della Bambina ed è ben noto e riconosciuto l’impegno profuso e il lavoro svolto nei progetti di Educazione Civica a favore delle nuove generazioni anche e soprattutto sulle tematiche della parità di genere.
Questo è da sempre stato l’impegno di una comunità volto all’inclusione e all’abbattimento dei muri di odio e discriminazione.
Ai tavoli dei nostri locali si possono trovare sedute persone con storie e colori differenti che non determinano in alcun modo una preferenza su altri, ed anche per loro ci sentiamo di interpretare pubblicamente il nostro rammarico.
Aspettiamo a braccia aperte chiunque voglia scoprire il nostro territorio, le nostre tradizioni, la nostra storia e quella di chi abita questo luogo, al quale non appartengono certi pregiudizi e discriminazioni, con qualunque colore della pelle voglia farci visita.

We are very dismayed by the post that appeared recently on the instagram page of an American travel blogger ()
Her post names Monterosso al Mare as one of the least safe places for a black woman.
Monterosso is described by her as a place where restaurateurs refuse to let people of color in, where, because of this same reason, they were not permitted to walk in certain places, and where they were denied a sunbed on the beach at because of the color of their skin.
We believe that the description of a place like this- wherever it is- would make anyone shiver, but we are even more dismayed and upset to know that these written words are trying to describe what our territory is.
It is enough to see any corner of the village and notice the peaceful mixing of the various races, ethnicities and religions, and walk down any of our tiny alleys to meet different faces, languages, appearances and features.
The Cinque Terre are experiencing, as we well know, a significant increase in tourism: not being able to find a sun bed on the beach last minute without an advance booking is a consequence of this and it cannot be linked to a serious phenomenon to be fought- like racism.
Every year our streets are walked by people from all over the world, and tourism visits us is the most varied that one can imagine. Our local community is made up of workers, citizens and residents of different nationalities, who have found here in Monterosso a second home- which has now become their first home for their children.
Our Municipality was one of the first in Italy to sign the Charter of the Rights of the Child. The commitment and work carried out in Civic Education projects in our community favoring new generations is well known, above all on the issues of equality of gender.
There has always been a commitment in our community towards inclusion and breaking down the walls of hatred and discrimination.
At the tables of the restaurants in our village, you can sit people with different stories and colors that do not in any way determine any preferential treatment, and for this we feel the need to note our distress about the previously mentioned post.
We welcome with open arms anyone who wants to discover our territory, our traditions and our history and for those who live in this place, to whom these prejudices and discrimination do not belong, for anyone with any skin color to visit us.
