In Sorrento, all public and private services are regularly working. Tourist attractions and sites remain open, as do all accommodation facilities, restaurants, bars and shops. Sorrento is not stopping and is ready to welcome tourists for Easter and the Holy Week rituals.
The mayor of Sorrento, Giuseppe Cuomo, replies to tour operators who are worried that this campaign of disinformation, fake news and alarmism in Italy about coronavirus, can have even more serious consequences on the local economy.
“Luckily, our area has not been affected by the virus – added Cuomo – Figures are not those of an emergency not even on a national scale, despite the schizophrenic media campaign. This situation is discouraging tourists, who are not well informed about what is really happening in Italy.”
“This absurd situation – continued the mayor – is producing fake news about sites, museums, monuments and archaeological areas closed to the public in Naples and its province.
We will soon start a communication campaign, involving the Campania Region – warned Cuomo – to let our visitors know that there’s no danger here. All tourist activities are open, and the municipality and health authorities are prepared to treat any suspected case. Moreover, we are carrying out accurate sanitation operations in private and public facilities.”
“All institutions – concluded the mayor – production categories, schools and citizens are asked to collaborate to overcome this difficult moment, which affects our economic and social sector in particular.”
