Make sure to get outside this weekend and explore your world to make your winter months are more adventurous my friends!

How Does Your Body Lose Heat?

1. Evaporation: Evaporation causes a cooling effect. The body loses 85% of its heat through sweating during intense exercise. Wet clothes from sweating and increased respiration also trigger a drop in body heat.

2. Radiation: Radiation causes heat to move away from the body. The body may lose more than 50% of its heat from radiation at temperatures lower than 68°F (20°C).

3. Conduction: Conduction is the transfer of heat from physical contact. Conduction occurs at 68°F (20°C) and is responsible for the loss of body heat from sleeping on the cold ground.

4. Convection: Convection occurs when a heated fluid (liquid or gas) travels away from a source. Take the example of a hot cup of tea. The rising steam coming off of the cup indicates the movement of heat as hot water transitions into gaseous water (wet steam).

Happy my friends!

Alexander is one of Florida’s 27 “first-magnitude” springs, each of which produce more than 64.6 million gallons of water a day and was once a place of the Native Timucuan.

Alexander is 60 to 80 feet wide and slower moving.
With exceptional water clarity and are surrounded by unspoiled forest and vegetation. The sunny Alexander passes through a yellow pine lowland and a riverine swamp, with marsh grasses, lily pads and palm trees along the shore. Shady Juniper has live oaks and cypress trees.

In the water, there were schools of fish and beautiful turtles that seem to be flying because the clarity of the water.

In years past, a 7-mile run with a return shuttle was offered at the springs.

No shuttle service is offered currently, so kayakers must now return by paddling upstream. The most common trip is a short 1-mile paddle downstream to the 455 bridge, seen here is Alice the Alligator, a 12-footer who likes to hang out under the bridge.

Unlike many Florida springs, Alexander Springs is quite healthy – nutrient levels, which can feed algae growth, have not increased over the entire 60 years they have been measured. (It helps that much of the springshed – the ground through which the water passes on its way underground into the springs– is inside Ocala National Forest.)

FLO-GROWN

Means home away from my home on the Island for myself.

AKA Florida raised/born

My Florida adventures began at the age of five years old with the exploring remaining the same until this day.

So many meaningful connections both with humans and wildlife are part of what makes the state of Florida my second home!

Florida will always be my home away from home!

Happy Monday my friends!

Leaning to your true feelings isn't something you're born knowing how to do. It requires practice. The great news is that these skills are like muscles, the more you use them, the stronger they get... And trust me, the more you listen, the louder that voice will get.

Drought is deadly to Joshua trees / Desert creatures attack the trunks and crooked limbs, seeking moisture

The Joshua trees are dying.

Hundreds of the crooked-limbed trees in the Southern California national park that bears their name have succumbed to one of the worst droughts ever recorded, which prompted attacks by desert animals desperate for moisture. Despite the return of life-giving rains last winter, scientists say thousands more trees will perish in coming years.

The U.S. Geological Survey, which completed surveys, agreed, saying 57 percent of trees marked as damaged by rodents a year ago have died; mortality for trees that had not been attacked is 5 percent.

"The situation is acute," said Todd Esque, a botanist with the Geological Service who first figured out that rabbits and rodents were attacking the trees.

"The level of damage going on in some of the little valleys in the park is pretty spectacular."

Hello Monday! Let’s do this my IG family & friends!

You a hammock or tent camper outdoors?

7 Rules of Life

Make peace with your past so it won't disturb your present.

What other people think of you is none of your business.

Time heals almost everything. ...

No one is in charge of your happiness, except you.

Don't compare your life to others and don't just them. ...

Stop thinking too much. ...

Smile.

(What would you add to these 7 rules?)

Happy Friday my IG family and friends!

Hopefully we all get out this weekend to explore so that we can have many adventures my friends with Mother out in nature!

Leaving you with this poem below and a shout out to my my favorite Friday hashtags

Won’t you celebrate with me
what i have shaped into
a kind of life? i had no model.
born in babylon
both nonwhite and woman
what did i see to be except myself?
i made it up
here on this bridge between
starshine and clay,
my one hand holding tight
my other hand; come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed

Lucille Clifton was born in Depew, New York, on June 27, 1936. Her first book of poems was Good Times
