Queen Rania on an official visit to Wadi Rum yesterday.

01/12/2025

After a day exploring the vast Wadi Rum desert, we paused for tea as the sun began to set. The fire faded, the sky lit up in unbelievable colors, and the desert fell silent. Moments like this are what make the desert truly magical.

Just before sunset last week, we spotted this Pharaoh Eagle Owl. It sat perfectly still on a small ridge in Wadi Rum, blending into the rocks so well that most people would walk by without ever noticing.

Its sandy feathers provide excellent camouflage. But as the evening light softens, something begins to shift. The desert cools, the shadows stretch, and the owl slowly starts to wake as its day is about to begin.

The Pharaoh Eagle Owl is one of Wadi Rum’s most impressive year-round residents. A powerful nocturnal hunter, fully at home among these cliffs and quiet spaces. We always feel lucky to see one.

Swipe through the photos and watch how it wakes up with the desert.

Have you ever seen an owl in the wild? Or is it still on your travel wish list? We would love to hear your story.

Did you know Wadi Rum is one of the darkest places on Earth?
High above sea level, with no city lights and dry desert air, the skies reveal what most people never see. Millions of stars, and the Milky Way stretching clear across the sky.

Right now is one of the best times to visit. The Delta Aquarids and Perseids meteor showers are active, sending dozens of shooting stars across the night.
But even on quiet nights, stargazing here is unforgettable.

You can watch from our peaceful camp or sleep under the sky in our remote cave. No lights. No noise. Just stars.

Have you ever seen the Milky Way?

We Bedouins have a lifelong bond with camels.
For generations, camels have been our companions. They carried us across the desert, provided nourishing milk, and remained faithfully by our side. Today, they are still part of our lives, whether in the calm rhythm of daily care, the excitement of camel racing, or offering travelers a taste of our desert traditions.

Fawaz and Nawaf grew up with camels, and Bianca quickly developed a deep affection for them as well. For us, spending time with camels, goats, or sheep brings peace. It’s a simple, grounding way to reconnect with nature.

In a world that moves fast, spending time with camels in the desert is the best medicine for unwinding and relaxation.

What’s your favorite way to slow down and escape the rush of daily life?

As the sun slowly dipped below the horizon, we gathered around a small fire, sipping tea and sharing stories. The desert stretched endlessly before us, golden and silent. Nearby, a tiny plant growing in the sand. A quiet reminder that even in the harshest places, life finds a way. A simple evening, yet one we won’t forget. ✨🏜️
