Visit our beautifully traditional sea view villa built in 1968 in the retro onsen town of Ito. The house has been renovated with care to accentuate the traditional Japanese features of the while adding layers of style and contemporary comforts. There is a large bath with a private garden view, a modern kitchen with a nod to Showa era design, a cozy dining room, a small deck overlooking the ocean,

an outdoor gas grill, and a karaoke room. The house accommodates up to six people in two large wash*tsu rooms separated by sliding doors.

We had an amazing 2024! We took a leap into snow country, opening THE LAYER | TANGRAM in stunning Nagano in December ❄️

THE LAYER | ITO continued to shine with some fantastic opportunities and recognition. We are so grateful for our many incredible guests ✨

We are also thrilled for our next chapter, returning our focus to the breathtaking Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka 🌊

We are excited to share a glimpse into our next project: THE LAYER | TANGRAM. Your new favorite holiday ski house in Nagano, Japan!

Nestled up in the hills just 2 minutes from the Tangram Lodge at Tangram-Madarao ski resort, this 6-bedroom winter wonderland getaway is perfect for group rentals of up to 12 guests.

Our loving renovation embraces Japan’s wild 90s bubble-era ski boom aesthetics while adding layers of comfort, modernity, and fun. As Japan’s beautiful winter season approaches, we can’t wait to unveil more of this incredible house and all that Nagano has to offer.

Lovely things like perfect Japanese peaches, summer festivals, and beaches along Izu’s gorgeous coast help get us through these hot summer months 🍑 🏖️🔥

If you’re visiting Izu in August, Itō’s annual Anjin Festival is August 8, 9, and 10. We’d love to see you there for taiko performances, fireworks, and a festive atmosphere along the river.

Those who watched the amazing show SHŌGUN will be familiar with a fictionalized version of the life of Miura Anjin (William Adams), who in 1600 became the first Englishman to reach Japan.

Miura Anjin served as a diplomatic advisor to Tokugawa Ieyasu and built Japan’s first Western-style sailing ship at the mouth of the Matsukawa River in Itō in 1604. Ito has been holding this festival since 1947, and a monument to Miura Anjin stands on Ito’s coast.

The Layer | Ito was our first project, and has really set the tone for the incredible quality of experience we hope to provide for all of our guests.

We are so excited for what is coming next for The Layer. 2024 is shaping up to be an amazing year for us, with one more project to be completed in the near future and a couple more in the works!
