【夏みかんに、感謝を込めて】
江戸時代中期、青海島・大日比の海岸に流れ着いた、ひとつの柑橘。
その種を植えたことからはじまる、おとぎ話のような夏みかんの物語。
その実は「夏代々（なつだいだい）」と呼ばれ、縁起の良い柑橘として大切にされました。
そしてその実は、明治維新後、困窮した士族たちを救いました。
萩の人々は、今も夏みかんに特別な思いを寄せています。
小幡高政による夏みかん栽培から150年を迎える今年。
甘く爽やかな花の香りは、今年も変わらず、初夏の萩を包み込んでいます。
ちなみに、野菜ソムリエ上級プロ・西川満希子さん考案の「ヤサイコトバ」で、夏みかんは「母への感謝」。
会場では、西川さんも出店されています。
母の日にあたる本日。

【With Gratitude for Natsudaidai】
A single citrus fruit once drifted ashore on the coast of Ohibi in Omijima during the mid-Edo period.
From the seeds of that fruit began the fairytale-like story of Hagi’s summer oranges.
Called “Natsudaidai,” the fruit came to symbolize good fortune and was cherished for generations.
After the Meiji Restoration, it also helped support struggling former samurai families.
Even today, the people of Hagi hold a special affection for these summer oranges.
This year marks 150 years since Takamasa Obata encouraged the cultivation of summer oranges in Hagi.
Their sweet and refreshing blossoms continue to gently perfume the town each early summer.
According to the “Yasai Kotoba” (Vegetable Language) created by senior vegetable sommelier Makiko Nishikawa, the meaning of Natsudaidai is “gratitude for mothers.”
Makiko Nishikawa will also have a booth at the event.
