Hello from Penang Island, Malaysia.

KOKUU is on a short holiday break, and we’re spending some quality time together as a family.

Today’s highlight: a cycling tour around the island—fresh air, local streets, and plenty of beautiful views.

Wishing everyone safe travels and a peaceful season wherever you are❤️

Feels like we’ve welcomed so many walking pilgrims this December! Maybe because the Japanese winters are getting a bit warmer?

Whatever the reason, it’s special to see Ohenro san (Pilgrims )reaching the end of their long journey here in Koyasan. To everyone wrapping up their walk: Otesukare-sama (Great work)! 🙏✨

We had a special visit today — a small architectural pilgrimage led by Mr. Takeguchi , the director of and the architect who designed KOKUU, together with his seminar students from Kinki University.
It was such an honor to welcome them and share the space with the next generation of designers.

Reopening of the Choishi-michi Pilgrimage Trail

Due to heavy rainfall in March last year, a section of National Route 480 collapsed, causing a closure between the 32nd and 33rd Choishi markers on the Choishi-michi trail.
During the restoration work, hikers were required to use a detour route, but we are pleased to announce that the repair work has now been completed.

The trail will officially reopen from Saturday, October 18, 2025.

🏔️ As the weather gets colder and winter approaches…

A new Montbell shop has just opened here in Koyasan,
located inside the Central Information Center!

You’ll find jackets, inner layers, gloves, and other useful items for the chilly mountain weather.
since many guests often ask,
“Do you have something warm to wear?” or “Any gloves I can borrow?”,
this is wonderful news!

Now visitors can stay warm and well-prepared during their stay in Koyasan.🍁❄️
