Peponi Hotel & Restaurant The original & iconic beach hotel & restaurant on Lamu island Peponi is a small hotel on the exotic island of Lamu, in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Kenya.

Peponi is still run by the Korschen family, who opened the hotel in 1967 and still retains much of the character and charm that it had then. Small and personal, it is the perfect rest after a safari or a hide away holiday from modern life.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Derrick Munene (b. 1995) is a Nairobi-based visual artist known for his striking paper collage compositions that explore themes of identity, societal expectations, and human emotion. His work intricately weaves together layered fragments, creating textured narratives that challenge perception and invite deeper reflection.

Munene’s artistic journey began with a passion for drawing at a young age, which led him to study Interior Design at The Technical University of Kenya. In 2018, he joined the renowned Dust Depo Studio under Patrick Mukabi, where his artistic voice flourished. His work often portrays social constructs, personal experiences, and the complexity of modern African life, with a particular focus on the pressures and traditions that shape individual existence.

Derrick Munene has exhibited in prestigious galleries, Ardhi Gallery, Kenya National Museum, Circle Art Gallery, Afrikin Miami USA, and Talisman. His ability to merge storytelling with a unique collage technique has positioned him as one of Kenya’s most compelling emerging artists.
