Ikweta Safari Camp, Meru National Park, Murera Gate, Kenya Ikweta Safari Camp is about affordable safari luxury, high standards and value for money to explore the complete wilderness of Meru National Park

Ikweta Safari Camp is part of the IKWETA brand of hospitality establishments promoting affordable safari luxury, high standards, and value for money in environments noted for natural elegance, style and convenience. It is a small owner-operated tented camp with 10 luxury tents located just 2 km from the main gate of Meru National Park. It is a year-round destination and a convenient base for explo

ring both Meru and Kora National Parks, two of Kenya’s parks to offer a complete wilderness safari experience. The tents are tastefully decorated in safari-style with high quality furniture including either twin or double beds. Bathrooms are separate en-suite, with flush toilets and hot showers, and each tent has a private verandah and faces East for guests to enjoy the spectacular sunrises from the comfort of their beds. Both Meru and Kora team with wildlife, including the famed Big Five – elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard. Moreover, Meru is also a bird watchers paradise. Over 400 bird species are reported. Other than its natural beauty, Meru is the setting for the film Born Free, based on the book of the same title by Joy Adamson featuring Elsa the Lioness. It is the park where Joy and George Adamson set Elsa free into the wild. Many visitors to the park still visit Elsa’s grave to pay their respects. Kora is also famous as the former home of George Adamson. The film crews of Six Feet Under the Savannah, a documentary on naked moles that live like social insects and exclusively underground, and Savannah Rebirth: A Celebration of Life, another documentary focusing on species that benefit from the unfortunate death of an elephant, produced by the French film company, FL Concepts & Co, stayed at Ikweta Safari Camp while shooting these documentaries at Meru National Park. In addition to game drives (by arrangement), we can organize for guests itineraries to scenic places in the area (in collaboration with Ikweta Country Inn, Maua).

Another 5-Star Moment at iKWETA Safari Camp ✨

Nothing makes us happier than knowing guests leave Meru with beautiful memories—early morning game drives, coffee on the veranda as birds awaken the garden, fresh farm-grown breakfasts, and that peaceful feeling of being close to nature without sacrificing comfort.

This recent review reminded us why we love what we do: creating a place where safari feels authentic, relaxed, and genuinely welcoming—not flashy, just quietly special—and where guests can enjoy the magic of the wild without the intimidating luxury price tag. Good value, real comfort, and heartfelt hospitality have always been at the core of iKWETA.

To everyone who has stayed with us, supported us, or shared kind words recently—thank you. Your encouragement keeps our small team inspired every single day. 🤍

Here’s to many more sunsets, wildlife encounters, and shared stories around the campfire.

5-Bubble Rave Review
Beautiful lodge in near a hidden gem

Wonderful lodge with a tropical atmosphere and many exotic birds. Friendly and helpful staff. The tent is spacious and amazing and the food very good. The nearby Meru national park is a hidden gem: savanna's, forests, semi-arid areas, swampland, rock formations and lush river banks. Wonderful! And it feels like a private safari; there's hardly anyone there!

A fabulous and memorable stay at Ikweta!

We stayed at Ikweta for four nights in January.
We were extremely well looked after by Susan and her friendly and resourceful team.
The accommodation and food was excellent and the camp's proximity to Meru National Park meant that we had easy access from dawn until dusk.
It was a wonderful stay and I'd be very happy to recommend it to others.
The small army of camp cats was a bonus!
We will definitely be returning.

Rave Review on Tripadvisor - 5 Bubbles!
Review from Jan 14, 2026

Absolutely stunning!
Ikweta Safari Camp is an absolute gem and, without question, one of the best safari experiences in all of Africa. Set in a breathtaking, wild landscape near Meru National Park, the camp feels completely immersed in nature, peaceful setting. Meru itself is wildly underrated: vast, diverse, and teeming with wildlife, yet free from the traffic and noise of more famous parks. It feels like having Africa all to yourself.

The staff at Ikweta are exceptional, warm, genuinely welcoming, attentive. Shout out to its lovely owners Susan and John, whom many people like me should be very grateful for allow us an unforgettable safari experience with honest pricing and without spending more than $1000 just for accommodation. From the moment you arrive, you are made to feel like a valued guest rather than a tourist. Their passion for the land, wildlife, and hospitality shines through in every interaction and elevates the entire experience.

The safari tents are outstanding: spacious, beautifully designed, extremely comfortable, and perfectly positioned to take in the surrounding wilderness. Everything strikes the perfect balance between comfort and authenticity.

Game drives in Meru are simply phenomenal—diverse wildlife, dramatic landscapes, and Big Five and many more animals sightings that feel intimate and unhurried. No crowds, no queues, just pure safari magic. On top of that an incredible birding destination with more than 400 species! What?? So, if you are looking for an authentic, high-quality, soul-stirring safari in an uncrowded setting, Ikweta Safari Camp is unbeatable. A truly special place that deserves far more recognition, and one I would return to without hesitation. This is the Africa‘s experience you have been waiting for!!
