What’s the best way to explore Jeju Island?
Pippi posted it a couple of days ago, and gave you a suggestion!! Divide the island into six regions: Jeju City, Seogwipo City, Northwest (Western Jeju City), Northeast (Eastern Jeju City), Southwest (Western Seogwipo City), and Southeast (Eastern Seogwipo City).🤣😁

Why split it like this? Since Jeju Self-Governing Province was officially launched in 2006, the island has been organized into just two cities. But before that, Jeju was divided into four areas: Jeju City, Seogwipo City, Bukjeju-gun (covering the eastern and western parts of Jeju City), and Namjeju-gun (covering eastern and western parts of Seogwipo City). So, when locals say “city,” they usually mean the central parts only.😁

Now, what can you see and do in Jeju City?
Jeju City is packed with rich history and cool spots like Jejumok Gwana, the Jeju 5-day Folk Market, Samseonghyeol, Yongduam Rock, and Yongyeon Valley. Nature lovers will adore Jeolmul Natural Recreation Forest, Halla Eco Forest, Cheona Forest Path, plus sandy escapes like Ihotewoo Beach and Samyang Black Sand Beach.🏖️

If hiking is your thing, don’t miss the Seongan Olle Trail — it has three routes, each almost 6 km long, perfect for soaking up Jeju’s traditional culture.
Oh, and you can’t skip Dongmun Market! It’s a must-visit spot buzzing with life.

First-timers? Pippi recommends the Jeju National Museum or the Jeju Folklore and Natural History Museum. For a glimpse into Jeju’s past, visit the Jeju 4.3 Peace Park.

What is the best way to travel Jeju Island? ♥️

First, you should know that Jeju isn’t a small island. It’s actually three times bigger than Seoul!! The population is just under 700,000 though. 😂 Even mainlanders tend to think the island is small, but no way!!

Second, Jeju Island was formed by hundreds of volcanic eruptions over thousands of years, which is why there’s no metro system on the island. Plus, there are over 160 lava caves underground, and probably more yet to be discovered.

So, what should you decide first when traveling Jeju?
That’s where you’re going to stay. Then figure out whether to rent a car or take the bus.
Oh, and one more option for adventurous souls—walking! 😂🥾
Hiking the Jeju Olle Trail is the best way to really get to know Jeju—the natural beauty, local life, traditions, and history.

If you’re a first-timer, focus on the Geo Park sites around Jeju, like Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak), Manjanggul Cave, Cheonjiyeon Falls, Jusangjeolli Cliff, and Sanbangsan & Yongmeori Coast.
Sadly, these attractions are scattered all over the island. So, it’s best to split your trips into specific areas.
Divide the island into six parts for easier planning.
If you’re staying for 4 nights, I recommend 2 nights in Jeju City and 2 nights in Seogwipo City, or 2 nights in the west and 2 nights in the east.

Here’s a quick guide to the six areas:

🌃 Jeju City: The central part of Jeju City with the airport nearby, city conveniences, and the best bus connections. Some top attractions require over an hour of travel.
Jeju Folk 5 day Market, Iho tewoo Beach, Yongduam Rock and Jejumok Gwana~~

☕️ Northwest (Western Jeju city): Coastal cafes and stunning sunsets, the best beaches like Hyeopjae, and the unique Gotjawal forest.

🏖️ Northeast (Eastern Jeju city): Quiet Bukchon Village where you can feel the peaceful village atmosphere and encounter Jeju’s sad history. Udo Island lies on the far east.

💦 Seogwipo City: The hub of Seogwipo with all three famous waterfalls and many city conveniences.

💎 Southwest (Western Seogwipo city): Gorgeous Geo Parks including Yongmeori Coast and Suwolbong, plus stunning sunsets.

🌺 Southeast (Eastern Seogwipo city): Seongsan Ilchulbong and beautiful camellia gardens in winter.

Renting a car is great, but taking the bus or walking are also good options.
If you take bus no. 201 at the Jeju bus terminal, you’ll reach all the attractive spots on the eastern side, including Hamdeok Beach, Gimnyeong & Woljeong Beaches, Haenyeo Museum, Seongsan Sunrise Peak, Seopjikoji, and Pyeoseon Beach.
Bus no. 202 covers the western side, with spots like Jeju 5 Day Folk Market, Hyeopjae & Geumneung Beaches, Panpo Port, and Sanbangsan.

Here’s something Pippi never quite understood after becoming a Jeju resident:
There are only two cities on the island, but when locals say “city,” they only mean the central parts of those cities.
So, does that mean other parts don’t belong to the cities?
It took Pippi a long time to understand why.

Hyeopjae Beach and Geumneung Beach are next to each other. I wonder why they have two different names for beaches… though there’s a rocky area between them. 😁
Hyeopjae Beach is more popular with tourists, but Pippi prefers Geumneung Beach because it’s bigger than the relatively small Hyeopjae.

The hot weather on Jeju keeps going, but today it’s a bit windy, which makes it feel more comfortable.

A Midsummer Night’s Haenyeo Performance!! 🎉🥳
The Daepyeongri Haenyeos are performing every Friday and Saturday night until August 22.

So, what exactly is a Haenyeo performance?
You’ll get a quick yet fascinating glimpse of how these incredible women dive and work underwater—all while singing their traditional sea-working songs live!
It’s an unforgettable experience you definitely don’t want to miss.
Best part?
Everyone is welcome, and admission is free.
Plus, on the last day, the Haenyeos will be serving sea urchin noodles along with other delicious dishes!
