Namsan Seoul Tower, one of the most popular places in Seoul
(How to visit the Namsan Seoul Tower)

Tour Route
Chungmuro(충무로) subway station -> Namsan (남산) Seoul Tower -> Myungdong (명동)

Namsan Mountain is very accessible to almost everywhere in Seoul because of its location. The mountain is in the middle of the city (there's a 360 degree panorama view of Seoul on the mountain) and walking up there could be a nice hiking in Spring and Autumn. However, when you get on the bus or the cable car during Summer and Winter, that would offer different and special experiences as well.

Here is a way to go up to the Namsan Seoul Tower from Todaki by subway and bus, and how to come to Myungdong station from Namsan Seoul Tower by cable car.

1. Please get on the subway at Anguk station line 3 (orange line) and get off at Chungmuro station. It takes only about 10 minutes by subway. Subway fee about 1,000KRW

2. There will be a bus station in front of the exit 2 of Chungmuro subway station.Number 02 or 05 goes to the top of the Namsan mountain. It takes about max 20 minutes. Bus rate about 1,000KRW

There are many restaurants on top of Namsan. If you want to visit the Seoul Tower for fancy dining or sightseeing on the tower, please visit the ticket booth first in front of the tower and get on the elevator. (Or you can book the dining by a phone call.

How to come to Myungdong from Namsan by Namsan cable car

1. There’s a ticket booth in front to the cable car station. The ticket is 6,000KRW.

2. When you get off the cable car, please walk out the cable car station until you reach to the road in front of the cable car station. There will be wooden stairs on the left side of the sidewalk. If you follow the way down the stairs, that will lead you to Myungdong station. It takes about 10 minutes on foot from the cable car station to Myungdong.

Myungdong area now has nice Christmas decorations. Plus, you can visit the DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza) and enjoy the spectacular night view of the building after visiting Myungdong area cause Myungdong subway station and Dongdaemun subway station (where DDP is) are near on subway line 4. From Myungdong to Dongdaemun station, it takes only within 10 minutes by subway.

Walking between the maple trees, coffees and Seoul Lantern Festival 2014 November

Now, Seoul is glowing with the warm light of Autumn, especially in the afternoon. Strolling in the parks where there are colorful trees would be nice. The trees are yellow, orange, red and also green lately. Having a cup of coffee at hanok house will give you a refreshing morning and restful afternoon. There is always coffee powder ready at Todaki. They say that there are two reasons why Koreans are fond of coffee. Koreans love coffee because of its similar taste with nuroongji (the crispy part of boiled rice) that is produced when we cook rice. Rice is a daily food in Korea. The other reason is that there was a kind of café culture in Korea before. Koreans like to gather and have conversation with neighbors. In Korean houses we had a guest room called sarangbahng (사랑방). The neighbors come visit the place and in the sarangbahng they chat and have teas then.

Regarding the Seoul Lantern Festival 2014 November: Cheonggyecheon stream (청계천) near the City Hall will be the location and the lanterns made from hanji, a traditional paper, will be floating on the stream and illuminate the area. It will be from Nov 7th until Nov 23rd in the evening (5pm~11pm). This year’s theme is ‘World Heritage sites of Seoul.’ So it will be a set of more unique sites of Korea. Please refer to the information about Seoul Lantern Festival on the webpage at http://seoullantern.visitseoul.net/
