– visitors to island are encouraged to stay offline this summer 📲

➡️ Those traveling to the island of Ulko-Tammio, located in the Eastern Gulf of Finland National Park, will be asked to keep their phones in their pockets this summer. The aim is to encourage holidaymakers to switch off their smart devices, take a break from social media and enjoy nature. Ulko-Tammio is believed to be the world's first phone-free tourist island.

🇭🇷 Island, also known locally as Bavljenic, is a tiny rarely-visited island in the Adriatic Sea. The oval shape is not the only reason it looks like a fingerprint, it's the stone walls that line the insides of the island that make it look characteristically different than any other. The walls are human-made and there is a reason why they are there.

The island was utilized for some farming activities and the walls were meant to deter the wind from destroying the crops. Gales can hurt crops, and one way to stop this from happening is to have stone walls that act as wind breakers.

✈️ Upon embarking on the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight we received our gluten-free meal, as one should always pre-order. The meal was filling and delicious, but the best part was the salt and pepper shakers - shaped like traditional whole-foot red clogs, also known in the Netherlands as a klomp.

🇳🇱 According to Wikipedia, "A klomp (plural klompen) is a whole-foot clog from the Netherlands. Along with tulips and windmills, they are strongly associated with the country and are considered to be a national symbol of the Netherlands."

👞 Klompen can be made from willow or poplar.

🇨🇦 Located in British Columbia, the Spotted Lake is one of the strangest geological features in Canada. It is also known to First Nations people as Kliluk. It looks like something you would see in a movie about outer space. The tiny body of water is rich is a variety of minerals, containing calcium and sodium, and also some titanium. During the hot summer months, the water evaporates and leaves all this components in what seems like a swamp-like muddle with circular figures.

🟩 It is thought to have some traditional medicinal qualities by the Okanagan Syilx people. It is a favorite stopover spot (no pun intended) for many road-trippers, as it is right by Highway 3 and is really close to the border of Washington state in the United States.
