Every room at Blue Kite Retreat is named after a tree native to the landscapes of northwestern Sri Lanka, celebrating the region's rich natural heritage.
The Palu Room is inspired by the Palu tree (Manilkara hexandra), one of the most treasured trees of Sri Lanka's dry zone. Known for its incredibly strong timber and its sweet golden fruit, the Palu tree has sustained wildlife and local communities for generations. During the fruiting season, its fruit becomes a feast for sloth bears, elephants, birds, and countless other animals, making it an important part of the region's ecosystem.
Blue Kite Retreat is nestled between the tranquil lagoon and the Indian Ocean, in a landscape that has welcomed travellers for thousands of years.
Just north of Kalpitiya lies the ancient harbour of Kudiramalai, once an important port along historic maritime trade routes where merchants from distant lands arrived in search of pearls and other treasures. These shores have witnessed centuries of stories, cultures, and traditions that continue to shape this remarkable region today.
