There is a particular kind of feeling in a cup of Ceylon tea enjoyed in a place that truly deserves it.

Sri Lanka’s tea tradition stretches back over 150 years, defined by the misty, high-altitude estates of Nuwara Eliya and Dimbula, where cool air conspires to produce some of the world's most delicate leaves.

But the story of our tea is vast… it also thrives in the rich, bold terroir of the low country, which produces the stronger varieties favoured in markets from the Middle East to Russia.

Stay tuned for a deep dive into a magnificent Southern Tea Estate, where the magic of low-country tea happens.

But for now, at 3 Sisters, we bring that timeless ritual down to the coast. Imagine sipping your favourite brew against the backdrop of the wide Indian Ocean horizon, a salt-laced morning breeze, and the unhurried rhythm of a beach house day.

Settle in. Let it sink into your soul. There is nowhere
else you need to be.

Just a 15-minute drive from 3 Sisters Beach House, a narrow causeway reaches out across the sea to a small, sacred island… Paravi Duwa, whose name translates simply as "Pigeon Island."

The Buddhist temple here draws both pilgrims and wanderers, and it is easy to understand why. The crossing itself feels like a transition: the world behind you grows quieter with every step. At dusk, when the last light catches the white stupa and shimmers across the still water, it is one of the most serene sights on the southern coast.

The kind of place that reminds you why you travelled here in the first place.

Three daughters. One unforgettable beach house.

3 Sisters takes its name from the owners' three daughters, and it carries that spirit of family and belonging into everything it offers. What began as a simple Dutch-style cottage on the southern coast has been transformed… with great care and deep respect for its origins… into one of Sri Lanka's most quietly exceptional retreats.

The sweeping L-shaped veranda remains. The high ceilings still draw in the sea breeze. And the hand-picked Sri Lankan antiquities that fill every room bring the kind of beauty that cannot be manufactured.
Not the biggest. Not the most famous. Simply a beautiful, private place to feel completely at home.

DM us now to book while the flights are cheap to reserve this tropical heaven, all to yourself.

Before the wave. Before the pop-up. Before any of it... there's the paddle. πŸ„β€‹

Most beginners spend their first lesson fighting the shore break before they've ever learned to feel the board under them. Lakshawaththa beach right in front of 3 Sisters Beach House doesn't let that happen. The water here is calm enough to actually learn -to find your centre point, build your stroke, read the water before it reads you.

That's not just a beach. That's a classroom.

Why the paddle matters more than the pop-up:

Most surf schools rush straight to standing. The result? Beginners with no paddle fitness, wrong board position, and no feel for the wave. Here's what to focus on first:

1. Board position:
Lie so your chin is about 30cm from the nose. Too far back = nose drags. Too far forward = pearl dive.

2. Stroke:
Cup your hand, enter at the nose line, pull past your hip. Long and deep beats fast and shallow every time.

3. Head up:
Eyes forward, not down. You read the ocean with your eyes, not your hands.

Our pool blends seamlessly with the horizon, offering a front-row seat to the Indian Ocean. Laze on a sun lounger under the shade of tall coconut trees and let the sound of the waves be your only soundtrack for the day.

From above, the math is simple. Pool. Garden. Trees. Sand. Ocean. πŸŒŠβ€‹

This is what "beachfront" looks like 60 seconds of your own bare feet on the South Coast.

The wave you're looking at is Lakshawaththa. Sandy bottom. Consistent. The full guide is in the comments. πŸ‘‡β€‹

Step into a tunnel of living green. This private garden stairway, framed by a thick canopy of tropical foliage, leads you away from the world and toward the sanctuary of our Loft Room. Notice the interplay of the Dutch-inspired architecture against the lush flora, a transition from the garden to your own private haven above.

πŸ“ LAKSHAWATHTHA SURF GUIDE - SK Town, Matara

1. The Break
Beach break, sandy bottom. No reef, no urchins, no surprises. A symmetrical A-frame peak that splits into a left and a right - the purest expression of swell. Forgiving for beginners, satisfying for longboarders.

2. The Sweet Spot
Western end of the beach, directly in front of 3 Sisters Beach House. The headland provides natural shelter, making the whitewash more consistent and the green waves easier to read.

3. Season & Conditions
November - April is prime, 28Β°C water, glassy before 9AM. Leave the wetsuit home - rash guard and zinc is all you need.

4. Tide Works on all tides.
Mid-tide is the Goldilocks zone - not too shallow, not too punchy.

5. The Golden Hour Rule
Be in the water by 6:30 AM. Mid-day wind turns it choppy. Sunset offers a second window.

6. The Hazard
Avoid the far eastern end near the cliffs - rocky bottom. Stay in front of the Beach House for pure sand.

7. The Landmark
Dondra Head Lighthouse to the east. Tallest in Sri Lanka. Hard to miss, great for orientation.

8. We can provide Local Instructor who knows this stretch better than anyone. Boards and lessons available locally.

9. The Basecamp
3 Sisters Beach House sits directly on the cliffs. Check the swell from the veranda with a coffee. If it's glassy, you're in the water in 60 seconds. Walk back off the beach, outdoor shower, garden breakfast . That's the whole commute.
