Our ‘Finding Pause’ workshop on March 8th draws from various movement research projects, including Ashley’s most recent work in progress with Meshground.

The movement themes captured in this short excerpt will be further explored, developed, and transformed as we create our own moments of finding pause.

Filmed by the No Names Collective at the Harmony Center, Colombo — from Meshground’s work in progress, “What About Rest?”, led by Ashley Fargnoli.

An ‘Ostentation’ of peacocks (next slide) 💚 they live in the wild, nest on the ground and sleep in trees. Peacocks are known for their spectacular mating displays. When a male wants to attract a female, he props up his train of feathers and fans into a semi-circle that can measure 6 - 7 feet wide. If the peahen is interested, he quivers, making his feathers shimmy and flash to entice her further. Show off ☺️

They wander into our gardens and are often found in the yoga shala gardens while sun salutation displays by humans are taking place. That’s no coincidence surely.

PODCAST ALERT 🔔 CRICKET is embedded in Sri Lankan culture. On every street corner games are played and makeshift pitches are put up. Galle Cricket ground is a UNESCO World Heritage site and fans can watch matches from up high, sitting on the ramparts. Faces are painted, flags wave, music plays - a festival atmosphere followed by a dip in the sea and drinks and chatter in local restaurants. Yet cricket was bought to the island by the British during their occupation, and it was once an elite sport. In 1996, it all changed, against the backdrop of civil war, the Sri Lankan team were a mixed group and the underdogs who won the world cup.

In this interview Journalist, Author and Podcaster Nicholas Brookes shares a beautiful story of his time living in Sri Lanka researching his critically acclaimed book, An Islands Eleven. We talk about cricket in Sri Lanka and how it changed the spirit of a nation, has fed into gender equality and why the game means as much to Sri Lankans as Tea. The two go hand in hand after all.

The opening image is of 14 year old prodigy Chamodi Praboda who took Sri Lanka U19 to a smashing win against England. We’ve hosted families whose children have toured the island with their school teams from New Zealand and UK, cricket fans flying in for test matches and we see local kids in our streets honing their cricket skills. Nick is a wonderful guest who shares fascinating insights into the island through the lens of cricket, culture and people.

Series 3, episode 3 out now on Spotify, Apple and other platforms.. Link in comments and bio.

Sssshh…..Ssshh. Two months before arriving, this hopeful groom contacted us and said he wanted to propose to his love. A week later he called again to say they were expecting their first baby. We planned in secret, with high precision, supported by our event partners - making sure T was completely in the dark and was able to enjoy her meal before he popped the question. We even concocted a story on why there was a photographer present to capture the moment. Edge of the seat stuff, and of course she was bowled over and said yes ❤️
