Dar El Menia For booking and more information visit http://www.medinafes.com Dar El Menia is run and owned by an Englishman, Graham Coules.

This fully restored dar is focused around its traditional courtyard, which, with its original marble floor, patterned tiles (zellig) and plaster carving, provides natural air conditioning and is the heart of the house around which all accommodation is based. , French and Spanish and enjoys sharing his knowledge of the Medina. Dar El Menia lies in the heart of Fes (Fez) Medina, former imperial capital of Morocco and the world?s largest medieval medina. Fes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site but it is not a museum it is a living, breathing city and Dar El Menia provides the perfect luxurious base to begin exploring the old and the new. This dar, or courtyard house, is at least 250 years old and has recently been completely restored using local craftsmen, techniques and materials.

“My friend and I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this place! When we walked through the door it opened up into a beautiful light filled center. Graham did an exceptional job decorating. The décor was on point leaving no nook or cranny without a touch of Morocco. The house manager, Issam was great and provided us with recommendations on what to do and where to go during our short stay. He was very accommodating and made sure that we had a great time in Fez. The breakfast provided by the housekeeper/cook was just what we needed to start each day. We also chose to have a traditional Moroccan meal cooked in, which was also excellent. The location is perfect if you are looking for an amazing, quiet, comfortable stay in the Medina of Fez. It was the perfect location to walk out the door and explore the maze of streets that make up this beautiful Medina. It was also located close to the Blue Gate as well as cafes/restaurants.”

“We enjoyed our short stay at Dar El Menia. We were met by Issam who helped us with our luggage and find our way to and from the home. It is in a good location in the Medina, easy to find once you get your bearings. There were 5 of us staying there and all were very comfortable.”

Such a great experience! The riad was as pictured, full of beautiful details in every corner. It is perfectly situated with easy access to the old medina. Did not get the opportunity to meet Graham himself but staff present were really helpful with recommending places to visit and serving breakfast on the roof was a nice touch

“We didn't have a chance to meet Graham, only the rest of the staff at Dar El Menia, but they were all extremely welcoming and friendly. We had a great time staying there while in Fes, and would gladly stay again. Breakfast every morning was delicious, and the Dar is very centrally located in the Medina (10min walk to the blue gates, 10min to the tanneries, souks all around, etc). Because it was our first time in Morocco, we took Graham up on a transfer from the airport to the Dar, so that we wouldn't have to figure out transportation and the Medina on our own. Without a bit of guidance, or an understanding of the Medina, any Dar/Riad would be difficult to find for a first-timer. Graham's driver picked us up at the airport when we arrived, and dropped us off to one of the staff about 2-blocks from the Dar, and walked us all the way there, explaining a bit about the Medina on the way. We also hired a guide for one of the days from Fes through Graham, and were very happy with the help navigating and seeing some things we definitely would have missed without him.”

We had a lovely stay at Dar El Menia. Khalid was nice and friendly. The riad is in the medina and very easy to find. We really liked the convenient location. The breakfast each morning was lovely and a great way to start the day!

We had an amazing experience in Fes and loved the house. Graham is a great host and although he was not there during our stay, he made sure that the staff assigned to the house were always available. Thank you for all your help and attention making this a wonderful stay. Chris, Mostafa and Um Klthum were extremely kind and helpful and ensured our stay was pleasant. It is not easy to wander into the Medina as a group of 11 with kids.

Thanks, Graham and Chris, for a great stay in your riad. The riad is fitted out very carefully and thoughtfully. It really feels like one is staying in a very traditional riad. The riad is very authentic and very beautiful. Well done, Chris and Graham. The day trip to Volubilis and Meknes was awesome and highly recommended. Breakfast on the terrace was spectacular. Location is very convenient.

Beautifully restored Dar in the medina, with easy access to the outside world as well as the deep parts of the medina. We upgraded on arrival to the larger room, which was much bigger and had a very comfortable bed. Breakfast and optional dinner were fantastic. Nice terrace. Graham is friendly, and his staff are particularly helpful and kind. The Dar is almost impossible to find until you know where to go. Graham picked us up from the nearby taxi stand. Would definitely return.

Perfect location. Perfect house- beautiful like a museum. Warm. Nice breakfast. Strong wifi. Graham is helpful with logistics and was easy to reach and arrange things with. And Fes is great- get a guide please for the maze of the medina

This was an excellent stay. The host was exceptionally nice, waking up at 2am to guide us to the house! We accidentally showed up a day early because we were jet lagged and messed up our schedule, but this was no problem for the Graham. We were very grateful for that. The location was great, right in the middle of the medina off a Main Street, so it was easy to find once you knew that street. I would definitely recommend staying here!

“We were warmly received and taken care of by Chris and the house staff (Moustafa and a maid). We loved the riad, which is in an excellent quiet location--we even thought it was in the medina at first because it's on one of those charming medieval streets, so narrow there was (solid) scaffolding to keep building walls from narrowing the streets even more (it's just outside the medina). It was our first time in a renovated riad and we heard from more than one Moroccan during our two-week stay that they were glad people were investing and renovating these homes that would otherwise have been left in disrepair. Each morning we climbed to the roof terrace were greeted with a very friendly Moustafa, a beautiful sun, a lovely overview of the city, and a delicious breakfast. It was quite pleasant also to be able to chat with Chris and as well as other guests at breakfast and other times. We also did not expect our rooms to be straightened and beds made each day. We definitely recommend this listing--great value.
