What happens when nine resorts across Indian Ocean unite in one purpose?
In celebration of World Environment Day and World Ocean Day, The Lux Collective brought together more than 280 participants across Mauritius, the Maldives, Réunion Island and Zanzibar for its first-ever Groupwide environmental initiative.
Through coordinated beach, lagoon and reef clean-up activities, resort teams, guests, local communities, NGOs, divers, marine conservation specialists and public authorities joined forces to remove over 230 kilograms of waste from coastal and marine ecosystems across the Indian Ocean.
More than a one-day activation, this initiative reflects a long-standing commitment to responsible tourism and environmental stewardship. Across our resorts, protecting the natural environments that surround us is an ongoing responsibility—one that is embedded in our daily operations and community engagement efforts.
While the amount of waste collected is measurable, the most important outcome is often less tangible: greater awareness. By creating opportunities for people to engage directly with coastal and marine conservation, the initiative encouraged meaningful conversations around environmental responsibility and the role each of us can play in protecting the ecosystems that sustain our communities.
At The Lux Collective, we view sustainability as a continuous journey rather than a one-day event. Through education, community engagement and collective action, we remain committed to fostering a deeper connection between people and the natural environments that inspire travel and support local livelihoods.
