They do every year ❤️

🇲🇽 104 MEXICANS JUST FLEW STRAIGHT INTO A WALL OF FIRE — AND THEY VOLUNTEERED FOR IT

On July 28, a plane lifted off from Mexico carrying 104 people toward a brutal wildfire season in Canada.

Not tourists. Brigadistas.

100 forest firefighters and 4 specialized technicians, headed for Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Here is what they are walking into. As of late July:

🔥 The Thunder Bay 36 fire is burning OUT OF CONTROL across 318,000 hectares — roughly twice the size of Mexico City.
🔥 More than 3,000 people from at least 12 communities, including First Nations communities, have been evacuated.

Now here is the part that is pure México:

📍 They came from 24 different states. Jalisco sent the most, followed by Michoacán, Durango, Tamaulipas and Chiapas.
📍 Five of them are women — one from Coahuila, one from Guanajuato, and three from Jalisco.
📍 They are not one single agency. They are state and municipal Civil Protection, fire management brigades, environmental authorities from all three levels of government, CONANP, and civil society organizations. México didn't send a department. México sent a national team.

And this is not a one-time photo opportunity. It is at least the THIRD contingent México has sent to Canada this year.

✅ Around 100 arrived in Ontario in mid-June, split into five brigades — installing water pumping systems, killing hot spots, cutting firebreaks to stop the fire from advancing.
✅ Around 100 more flew to British Columbia in early July.
✅ Last year, Mexican crews fought fires in northern Manitoba. Before that, Ontario in 2023.

None of it is improvised. It runs through a signed Memorandum of Understanding and Operational Plan between México and Canada for sharing forest fire management resources. A real system, built in advance, for the day a friend is burning.

Canada noticed. Prime Minister Mark Carney publicly thanked President Sheinbaum and the Mexican people for pledging 200 firefighters — saying that is what friends do in a crisis.

But forget the paperwork for a second and think about who these people actually are.

A brigadista from Durango. A woman from Guanajuato. A crew from Michoacán. People with lives and jobs waiting for them at home. People who could have stayed. Instead they boarded a plane to thousands of kilometers away, to fight a fire in a forest they had never seen, for people they will never meet again.

México does not always get to choose how the world sees it.

This week, México chose what it wants to BE: the country that shows up.

Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney stopped everything this week... to thank MEXICO. 🙏🔥

As Canada battles one of the worst wildfire seasons in its history, 200 brave Mexican firefighters answered the call — deployed to Ontario and British Columbia, walking into the flames to protect families they had never met.

And in front of the world, Carney said:

🗣️ "I'm going to take this opportunity to thank President Sheinbaum and the Mexican people for sending 200 firefighters to help us with our fires here. That's what friends do when you have a crisis."

No borders. No politics. Just courage and brotherhood. 🇲🇽❤️🇨🇦
