At Winsin Stationery, we believe that continuous learning is key to building a stronger and more resilient business.

Recently, our team had the opportunity to attend a 2-day Financial Masterclass for Non-Finance Professionals, held on 26–27 February 2026 at Wyndham Hotel, Bangsar.

This masterclass provided a solid foundation in financial literacy—equipping our team with essential knowledge and practical skills to better understand business performance and decision-making.

Throughout the session, we explored:
📍 Key financial statements including Profit & Loss, Cash Flow, and Balance Sheet
📍 The golden rules of financial management
📍 Budgeting through cost analysis and real-life case studies
📍 Evaluating profitability and identifying the financial health of a business

By strengthening our financial understanding, we are better positioned to make informed decisions, improve operational efficiency, and drive sustainable growth.

📦 Effective Stock Taking & Inventory Control Seminar

Warehousing and Supply Chain Management is a critical asset for any organisation, especially for product-based companies. With that in mind, we brought our team to attend the Effective Stock Taking and Inventory Control Seminar, organised by OTC Training Centre Sdn Bhd, held on 21–22 January 2026 at Dorsett Grand Subang Hotel, Selangor.

The session was led by Mr. Yeo Sang Hong, an experienced supply chain manager and consultant, who shared practical insights into inventory management from both operational and strategic perspectives.

It was a highly insightful and engaging course that covered the fundamentals of warehousing and stock management. The programme also included group discussions and case study exercises, allowing participants to exchange ideas, collaborate, and network with professionals from different organisations and industries.

Key areas discussed include:

📦 Types of Warehouses & Racking Systems
Different types of warehouses and racking systems tailored to organisational needs, such as pallet racking systems, double-deep pallet racking, mobile pallet racking, and more.

📦 Picking Routing Maps & Management
Various picking routing methods that can significantly improve productivity and efficiency in warehouse picking operations.

📦 Inventory Loss & Profit Calculation
Deeper insights into inventory profit and loss, including Gross Margin Return on Inventory Investment (GMROII), inventory cost components (ordering, holding, spoilage, and stock-out costs), cycle counting, stock forecasting, and inventory turnover ratio.

🎯 Key learning takeaways include:
• Understanding the core principles of stock management
• Developing and implementing suitable stock control systems to improve stock accuracy
• Planning and executing systematic stock taking processes
• Applying problem-solving and analytical approaches to resolve stock discrepancies
• Developing performance indices to measure and monitor stock performance

The training also emphasized supplier and vendor performance management, risk mitigation strategies, and ESG conformance, reinforcing the importance of building a sustainable and responsible supply chain.

Overall, it was a valuable and enriching learning experience that strengthened our understanding of effective inventory control in achieving operational efficiency and long-term sustainability.

🤖AI era is here, and how the stationery market can benefit from it?🇲🇾

AI and technology adoption have become an important trend for businesses across all industries, including SMEs. I recently attended a talk hosted by the Selangor & Kuala Lumpur Stationery & Bookseller Association (雪隆文具书业公会) on 17 January 2026, which focused on how the stationery retail and wholesale industry can adapt and stay competitive in the AI era.

The session was especially relevant for stationery retailers and wholesalers, as it addressed real challenges faced by traditional businesses today. The speaker shared practical insights on how business owners can effectively use AI tools to improve operations, marketing, and overall productivity — rather than viewing AI as a threat.

Popular AI platforms such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini were introduced, with clear explanations of their similarities, differences, and unique strengths, helping participants understand how each tool can be applied to different business needs.

This talk reinforced an important message:
AI is not here to replace the stationery industry — it is here to support and empower it. Those who learn to use AI wisely can work smarter, adapt faster, and remain relevant in a changing market.

人工智能与科技应用已逐渐成为各行业(包括中小企业 SME)的重要发展趋势。本人于 2026 年 1 月 17 日 参加了一场由 雪隆文具书业公会(Selangor & Kuala Lumpur Stationery & Bookseller Association) 主办的专题分享会,聚焦于文具零售与批发行业在 AI 时代中,如何转型升级并保持竞争力。

本次分享内容对文具零售商与批发商尤为具有现实意义,深入探讨了传统行业当前所面临的真实挑战。讲者从实务角度出发,分享了企业经营者如何有效运用 AI 工具来优化营运管理、市场营销与整体生产效率,引导业者以“工具思维”看待 AI,而非将其视为威胁。

分享会中亦介绍了多款主流 AI 平台,包括 ChatGPT 与 Google Gemini,并清晰解析了两者在功能定位、应用场景及优势特性上的异同,帮助业者理解不同工具在不同业务场景中的应用价值。

When it comes to stationery brands, Faber-Castell is a name many of us grew up with.

Founded in Germany in 1761, Faber-Castell has over 260 years of history, making it one of the world’s oldest stationery brands. The brand is widely recognised for its pencils, coloured pencils, pens, and erasers, and is deeply committed to quality, sustainability, and craftsmanship.

Faber-Castell established its Malaysian operations in 1978, starting with a small team of just eight staff. Local production of natural rubber and PVC erasers began around 1980. In September 2002, the company moved into its modern manufacturing facility in Subang Jaya, which also features the iconic Tallest Pencil landmark.

What many may not know is that Faber-Castell maintains a strong and integrated presence in Malaysia, with its manufacturing plant and office located in Subang. This site supports not only production, but also marketing, product training, and brand education for the local market.
