‘Cases involving possible illegal hotels are appearing all over Oslo

Nearly 30 ongoing cases involving suspected illegal hotel operations in ordinary residential properties are currently being investigated by Oslo’s Planning and Building Agency.

According to recent figures, at least 28 cases are under review. The issue concerns apartments that may be operating as hotels or short-term accommodation businesses, despite being located in buildings zoned for residential use.

Authorities are examining whether some properties are effectively functioning as hotels rather than homes, which could violate planning and zoning regulations.

The increase in cases highlights growing concerns about the impact of large-scale short-term rentals on residential neighborhoods, including frequent guest turnover, noise complaints, and reduced availability of housing for permanent residents.’

There’s something special about standing in the home of Edvard Grieg and realizing the music that shaped Norway was created right here in Bergen. Born in 1843, Grieg took inspiration from the fjords, mountains, folk traditions, and everyday Norwegian life — turning it into music the whole world still recognizes today.

Visiting his villa at Troldhaugen feels like stepping back in time. You can walk through the house he shared with his wife Nina, see the small composer’s cabin by the water where many of his masterpieces were written, and experience live concerts surrounded by the same landscape that inspired him.

A little piece of Norway’s soul still lives here 🎶

Resistance | The Norwegian Boy Who Guided Refugees Through the Forest | WWII Norway

“He was merely fourteen years old. Had the German soldiers discovered whom he was helping, they would almost certainly have shot him.”

During WWII, escape routes from occupied Norway to neutral Sweden became vital for refugees, resistance members, and Jewish families fleeing arrest.

The forests near the border were dangerous, crossed at night through snow, cold, and the constant threat of German patrols.

Guides were essential. Some were experienced outdoorsmen. Others were barely teenagers.

Historical accounts describe young Norwegians carrying messages, tracking patrols, and guiding refugees between safe houses because children often attracted less suspicion.

But the danger was immense.

Anyone caught helping refugees risked arrest, imprisonment, or ex*****on.

Many refugees were children themselves. Families moved silently through frozen forests, carrying few belongings and trying not to make a sound.

Survivors recalled guides suddenly stopping groups after hearing distant voices, barking dogs, or engines beyond the trees.

No one moved. No one spoke.

For these young helpers, the burden was enormous. Some were barely teenagers yet responsible for keeping entire families alive.

After missions ended, many quietly returned to ordinary life — school, family dinners, everyday routines — despite having recently led terrified refugees through forests hunted by German patrols.

Historical records confirm that Norwegian resistance networks helped many refugees reach Sweden safely, though others were captured before escaping.

Across occupied Norway, young resistance helpers continued guiding refugees through frozen forests despite knowing discovery could cost them their lives.

Because sometimes, resistance depended on children carrying burdens no child should ever know.

⛔ TROLLTUNGA CLOSED FOR THE NEXT 3 WEEKS

Local authorities have made the difficult decision to temporarily close the access road to Trolltunga for the next three weeks due to critical safety work.

The closure comes after a significant increase in the risk of rockfalls in the area. As a result, all hikes to Trolltunga — including guided tours — will be suspended during this period.

Access may reopen during the second week of June, depending on safety assessments and progress of the work.
