This is the second workshop taking place in Norway where our project originally found its' beginning:
Beyond the Arctic Circle
The second workshop arranged by the Norwegian Theatre Academy/Østfold University College within the Prague Quadrennial´s SharedSpace project will take place in Vardø.
Vardø is a small town far beyond the Arctic Circle on a little island in the most Northeastern part of Norway. The town´s inhabitants do not see sunlight for two months of the year. Our workshop will take place just as the sun slowly begins to rise above the horizon once again.
Dating back to its founding in 1306, Vardø is Norway´s most Eastern town, its history is marked by its strategic importance close to Russia. The town was bombed during the Second World War and rebuilt during the early 1950s. The workshop follows the main themes of SharedSpace project, which are Music, Weather and Politics.
The Music will be a blend between natural and human voices and sounds, as well as the evoked music within our imagination. The Weather, understood as an extreme condition, will be the foundation of the workshop, which will focus on the sensory experience of such a distinct site. In terms of Politics, this small town at the border of Russia will be explored for its placement which gives it a distinct cultural and strategic identity..
