Børge Ouslands Island in Steigen, northern Norway, close to the Lofoten Islands. Manshausen was once part of one of the biggest trading posts in northern Norway. Fish in all forms, dried, salted or fresh on ice was prepared at Manshausen and shipped south to Bergen and mainland Europe. The trading post was established in 1690, (closed down in 1924) but people have lived and worked here for much lo
nger. We are developing Manshausen into a unique travel destination where you can enjoy the large variation of exiting outdoor activities in combination with comfortable and private waterfront lodges for couples, and with conference facilities for the business minded. With its ocean location on a sheltered coast, surrounded by islets, mountains and sandy beaches, Manshausen is ideal for kayaking, snorkeling and fishing. Nearby mountains offers superb skiing, hiking and climbing. Steigen is also home to Europe’s largest concentration of sea eagles. Our focus when building the lodges is architecture, design and location, where you will be close to nature also when inside. Here you can enjoy the northern lights in winter or midnight sun in summer from the warm comfortable bed, or in the hot-tub, after an active day outdoors. It will be built for smaller groups, up to approx 25 people. The islands two-floored main house is now being re-furbished and will include a well-equipped kitchen and upstairs with library, comfort zones and conference facilities. The huts will all sit on, or close to the waterfront, with private locations and spectacular views. They will have two bedrooms, plus bed for smaller children
The island is only one and a half hours away from Bodø by boat. Construction period will be throughout 2014. Opening season is end of June 2015. Follow the progress on this page, or www.manshausen.no
The Manshausen News will also be posted news through our normal newsletters. Børge Ousland
