The other day, we had the privilege of welcoming a group of tourism agents to Te Aka as part of a Development West Coast familiarisation tour.

It was an opportunity to share not just a destination, but a feeling. To showcase the beauty of Nelson Creek, the magic of the West Coast, and the experiences that invite people to slow down, reconnect, and immerse themselves in nature.

The forest absolutely put on a show, reminding us why we fell in love with this landscape in the first place.

A huge thank you to West Coast, New Zealand for bringing together such an incredible group of operators and advocates for our region. Collaboration like this helps shine a light on the people, places, and stories that make the West Coast so special.

If you've been dreaming of a slower pace, mornings in the trees, afternoons in the sauna, and evenings soaking in a bath beneath the forest canopy… perhaps this is your sign.

We'll be here when you're ready. 🌿✨

Skip the flowers this year… they’ll be dead by Tuesday anyway. 🫣

Give her something she’ll actually remember. 💚

A weekend at Te Aka — 8th to 10th May —
with a complimentary sauna session, a goodie bag, and dinner sorted.

Forest, fire, good food, proper switch-off.

Can’t make the dates?
Easy. Grab a gift voucher and let her choose her own escape.

Mum will be stoked. 😉

It’s that time of year again…
when the forest floor starts to reveal what’s usually hidden.

Not just one kind of fungi — but an entire world quietly unfolding beneath the canopy.

Electric blues. Soft translucent whites. Earthy tones that blend straight into the leaf litter.

And then… these.
The small yellow Mycena flavovirens — a rare find, with only a handful of recorded sightings in the South Island… and somehow growing right here in the Te Aka forest.

Captured by Paula Vigus — author of A Hidden World: Discovering the Beauty of New Zealand Fungi — whose work has a way of making you stop and actually see what’s been there all along.

What we love about this season isn’t just the rarity…
it’s the reminder.

There’s a whole ecosystem operating beneath our feet.

Delicate. Complex. Completely alive.

You don’t need to go far to experience something wild.
You just need to slow down enough to notice it.

Big love to Paula for sharing her lens and knowledge with us 🌿

Come see what’s growing. 🍄

Turn the sound up. 🔊

Gravel under tyres.

Birds & cicadas in the canopy.

Water moving through the bush.

This is what arriving at Te Aka Treehouse Native Forest Retreat looks — and sounds — like.

You come down the road.
Walk the path.
Step inside.
Let the forest do the rest.
A sauna tucked into the trees.
A cold plunge fed by the land itself.
Veggies on the BBQ.
Dinner on the deck as the light drops away.
No soundtrack needed.
The West Coast already has the best tunes.

We’ve got Feb 14 & 15 available if you feel like disappearing with someone you love for a couple of nights.

Slow is good here 🌿
