It has been relatively calm here in Motu.... but this delightful purple sky at 6.15am this morning may be 'telling' us something.

Despite the deluge of rain, blue sky is trying its best to poke through here in Motu and already feeling humid with a forecast of 30 degrees.

We just had some bike packers who are doing the Kopiko (West to East) use Pakihi Track this morning. Pakihi Track is 17km from our Lodge.

Motu Trails Charitable Trust trustee Haimona Ngata said the track was in good condition.

It's been a cracker of a day here in Motu! Cycle Gisborne have brought a hungry crew of 10 arriving this afternoon after tackling the Pakihi Track as part of the Motu Trails Cycleway - an alternative route to Old Motu Road.

Packed Lunches getting ready to be bagged up for a group of 12 bikers organised through Cycle Gisborne.

We cater for bike-packers staying at Motu as part of the Motu Trails Cycleway. On offer is Breakfast, Dinner and a Packed-Lunch.

It was a pleasure and gift to have Andrew Robinson alongside Jim Robinson from Motu Trails Cycleway stay with us last night. Andrew is doing an amazing challenge riding 200km a day to complete 23 Great Rides (including the roads in between) to raise money for men's mental health during . Today is day 5 for Andrew who has done the Motu Road already this morning and is completing the Pakihi Track and then onto the Whakarewarewa Forest Loop Great Ride.

Motu Falls and the Whinray Scenic Reserve Track is 5km from Te Awa Lodge. Pack a picnic and enjoy time at the Falls or walk along an old coach road through native forest.... suitable for all ages.

After a very wet night with high wind and a power cut included, our guests braved it and have continued on their way doing the route. Still quite wet here in Motu 💦
