👶 Heading in for a WOF? Read this first if you use car seats 🚗
If your vehicle is due for a Warrant of Fitness and you have child car seats installed, the safest option is to remove them before the WOF and reinstall them yourself afterwards to the manufacturer standards, unless your mechanic is a qualified Child Restraint Technician (CRT).
Why?
• Mechanics are required to remove all car seats using a seat belt to complete a WOF, to check they are working properly. This does not always apply to Isofix.
• But unless they’re CRT trained, they’re not required to reinstall the seat correctly.
• Once a car seat has been disturbed, it may no longer be installed as safely as it was.
Best practice:
✔️ Uninstall your car seats before the WOF
✔️ Reinstall them yourself using the manufacturer instructions
✔️ Or have them checked by a trained CRT after the WOF
A WoF confirms your car is roadworthy, it doesn’t guarantee your child restraint is installed safely.
