Emergency SMC (Staff Management Circle) session in progress... comparing quotes for a new stove!

Te Wahi Ora has a herstory of providing our guests with delicious nutritious meals... so when our old stove finally decided it was her time to leave this place and take her well earned place in AH (Appliance Heaven) after honouring us with many years of faithful service... it constituted an emergency here in Piha

Her departure wasn't completely unexpected. The signs she had entered her dotage were being noted by all that cooked with her. She was really struggling... severe bake temperature fluctuations... unexpectedly switching to grill... sometimes just not remembering she was baking dinner and switching herself off. It was distressing to witness. But the final decline was sudden and one day the light within her 'on node' ceased to flicker.

With regret we discussed as a group if we had prolonged her suffering by 'discussing' her successor at meetings but not resolving that discussion into action. Or was is that we were in denial... or, as some amongst up suggested, that we knew in our hearts she wanted to be of service as long as she possibly could. We will never know

Her final wish is that she be delivered gently to the metal recyclers to live on in another metal.

As a result we have to buy a new stove and get it installed quick smart! 😬
Karen did some research and found a well discounted stove unit with free delivery on sale at Trade Depot. However with installation costs and the gentle delivery of our past kitchen team member to the metal recyclers we are looking at just shy of a couple of grand ... However we are already mid way through fixing the downstairs shower used by those who stay in the chalets.

A BIG shout out to both Mitre 10 for the generous donation of a new shower for the bathroom under Seaview Suite. THANK YOU

And also to our awesome Trustee Karen for her initiative and her time (also donated) taken to organise this with Mitre 10. We appreciate you.

The bathroom shower under the Seaview Suite was worn out.

... and now the task was to installing the new shower unit.
Any financial help towards the cost of installers & plumber would be a great boost.

When do you ever have a day in bed other than when you were ill?

If it is cold, wet and miserable why not stay in bed and read books?
Have your meals bought to you.
Pay a little extra to have one of the three rooms with ensuites and you’ll be happy in your PJs the whole day!

When do you Mum’s with young children, or all you professional women doing ‘everything’, ever have a chance to do that!

Our rugged west coast looking stunning!

Piha never tries to be perfect… and that’s exactly why I love it.

Winter is about putting our roots down deeply as we hunker into the warmth and security of our place of hibernation.

Yeah, right! When? With jobs and kids and partner wanting attention and meals, teens wanting transport to their winter sports, the house wanting cleaning, social arrangements wanting your attendance.

At Piha’s, Te Wahi Ora Women’s Space, NONE of the above goes on.

You can do nothing except HIBERNATE which is exactly what we are meant to do in winter! RIGHT!

All meals are provided – breakfast is given to you in your room to have any time you feel like it. Other meals can also be brought to your room if that’s what you feel like that day.

There are NO expectations on you – apart from “enjoy yourself and your time of hibernation. You deserve to hibernate every winter!

Bev opened the curtains in Te Wahi Ora's Daisy Room this morning and ate her breakfast watching the moon set! "Awe" was the word she used. ..a bit of a blurry phone photo recording the moment however the light was still low 😜

The moon's setting is not always visible due to shifts in its lunar phase, daytime blue glare, and hills, tall trees, buildings, or thick clouds can block the low western horizon, hiding the moon before it technically touches the ground.

Te Wahi Ora is on the west coast looking out to a clear ocean horizon line. Moonsets are especially visible here in the winter months 🌝 ❤️
