The Ruapehu Viaduct Explorer runs on Saturday 28 February, taking you from National Park to Ohakune and back across some of the most iconic viaducts in the country.

With the Ring of Fire making its return to Ruapehu this March, we’re looking forward to welcoming walkers, runners, support crews and families into the region.

Ongarue Valley Retreat is a peaceful place to base yourself before or after the event a little away from the crowds, with space to rest, recover, and reset before travelling on.

The Timber Trail (84km) is a perfect long, steady point-to-point training run to build endurance, time-on-feet and mental resilience without race-day pressure.

If you stay with us, you start your day by taking the shuttle 200 metres from our gate to the Pureora trailhead, then run the full 84km south back to Ongarue finishing within a few minutes of your accommodation.

No car relocations, no loops, no repeats just a clean, committed long run followed by a proper shower, food, rest and sleep.
