Sand at Wategos: one month's movement. Seems the weather has been normal season here oceanside (apart from a couple of short extreme wet events) but mostly from the eastern quadrant, showers, and sunny.

Uluwatu, Bali's surfing Mecca. 50 years ago one had to walk along a 2-3k path through dry, open fields with cactus fences. One or two warungs served warm soft drinks and provided shelter and a panoramic view of the spectacle below. The view is still the same.

Bukit Photos #2 After Benoa Bay we turned left and did a fly-by of the giant statue GWK: the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park. At over 120m high (a 3 storey building is 10m high) it is located at the top and centre of the Bukit(hill). Constructed out of small pieces of copper and brass welded together, it weighs in at 3 thousand tons, and took 20 years to build. It was designed by local engineer Nyoman Nuarta. We then started our circumnavigation of the Bukit heading firstly to Jimbaran Bay.
The demolition of Bingin is clearly visible. Padang Padang(Grassy Field) and Thomas Beach are just before the lead character on the Bukit: Uluwatu

Photos from a helicopter ride around the Bali Bukit in March 2026. Started just west of Nusa Dua and traveled anti clockwise around the Bukit. Lots of development happening, including the demolition of Bingin. The surf was small but pretty.
