Dora the Explorer, a Nickelodeon animated show with the main character embarks on a trip in every episode to find something or help somebody. This is where I got the concept of my blog which aims to document all my wanderings whether it is going to events, eating at buffets, staying in luxurious hotels, traveling solo etc. I go with the tagline “iWander. iKwento”, a way of discovering what the wor

ld offers, experiencing it with my bare senses and by the use of internet and my passion in writing, share these experiences to others. I started my food/travel/events blog last September 2012 after my Puerto Princesa City, Palawan trip. Witnessing the beauty of nature at your naked eyes is the best feeling ever. It encouraged me to write since I know not all people can afford to travel, so why not share these experiences online for others to see. Who is rjdexplorer? RJDEXPLORER is Ar-jay Abellera, a graduate of Mathematics major in Statistics, a native of Pangasinan working as an analyst in the busy city of Metro Manila. He is a frustrated writer who fascinated on journalism during his secondary education by joining school press conferences. Taking photos is a hobby. Add the Sadik Grand Mosque to your Zamboanga itinerary for its scale and the chance to witness real community moments, especially at sunset and during Ramadan. Even while under construction, it already feels alive, making the experience more meaningful than most typical stops.

Basilan is one of the easiest ways to experience Mindanao without overcomplicating your itinerary.

Less than an hour from Zamboanga City, you can already reach Isabela City and start exploring. From there, short rides take you to places like Malamawi Island and Lampinigan Island without long transfers or complicated planning.

If you’re looking for a destination that is accessible but still feels different from the usual, Basilan is a good place to start.

Save this for your trip, or send it to someone you’d travel with. Link of my full Basilan itinerary on my travel blog, link available on the comment section.

You made it to Basilan… but did you really explore it?

Most people visit Malamawi Island, and honestly, that already says a lot. It’s easy, it’s beautiful, and it works for most travelers. But Lampinigan Island is different. It asks for more effort, more planning, and a bit more patience.

Getting here takes around 30 minutes by boat from Isabela City, and there’s nothing fancy waiting for you. No resorts, no restaurants, no curated experience. Just white sand, clear water, and a kind of quiet that’s hard to find now.

If you’re the type who enjoys places that still feel raw and untouched, this is one spot you shouldn’t skip.

Follow this page for more travel features, and insider travel tips. Save this for your Basilan itinerary.

Malamawi Island doesn’t take much effort to reach, but it gives you the kind of space that’s getting harder to find.

That’s what stands out here. Not a list of activities, but the pace. Malamawi doesn’t try too hard. It just gives you a quiet stretch of coast and lets you experience it as it is.

Save this for your Basilan trip. More about our Malamawi Island visit, on my travel blog. Link on the comment section.

Finding spots to visit in Sulu felt less like a checklist and more like a quiet journey. From untouched beaches to hillside viewpoints, every stop invited stillness. Even Jolo’s streets told stories. Sulu doesn’t try to impress, it simply stays real, and that’s what makes it unforgettable.

There was a time when Sulu lived only in headlines, shaped by distance and conflict. That narrative formed a lasting stigma for many Filipinos. But now, tourism slowly thrives, and Sulu reveals more, and you notice it the moment you walk through Jolo’s streets.
