We do not know how else we can honor the memory of our boy, Bonchon. Just like his other cat siblings, he grew fond of my kimono and would always choose to lie on it whenever I folded them. Knowing this, I took out a kimono from my collection that does not have a twin, something I hoped I would never have to bring out or see worn as a full ensemble. But in loving memory of my boy, here it is.
The Mofuku (喪服) is the most formal and traditional Japanese mourning kimono, characterized by its plain black silk design adorned with five kamon (family crests). Worn by both men and women during funerals and memorial services, it represents deep grief and mourning. The ensemble is entirely black, featuring a black obi, black accessories, and white undergarments.
To everyone who extended help during our fundraiser, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Knowing that there were people who shared our concern and stood with us in our fight to help Bonchon is something we will always be grateful for. He may no longer be with us, but he surely left tiny pawprints on our hearts that we will never forget.
