Mendiants are a traditional French confection composed of thin rounds of perfectly tempered chocolate topped with nuts and dried fruits.

Originally named for those in religious orders who survive entirely off donations. Each chocolate disc represents the color of the robes of the mendicant or monastic order: white, grey, brown and purple for Dominicans, Augustinians, Franciscans and Carmelites.
