Some of the most meaningful experiences in Bohol are found beyond its well-known attractions.

For Avonne, our Front Desk Supervisor from Alburquerque, one of those experiences is witnessing the traditional craft of making Asin Tibuok, a centuries-old artisanal salt that remains deeply connected to the history, culture and identity of her hometown.

Through the people who call Bohol home, we hope to share the places, traditions, and stories that make this island so special.

Have you ever discovered a place or tradition that gave you a deeper appreciation of Bohol?

A day at Amarela unfolds gently.

Morning coffee on the balcony. Garden paths shaded by trees. An afternoon by the pool or the sea. A quiet corner with a good book.

As evening falls, the day slows once more over good food, meaningful conversations and the sound of the waves nearby.

Sometimes, the best days aren’t the busiest ones. They’re the ones that leave you feeling rested, refreshed and fully present.

Which part of the day would you enjoy most?

Some flavors simply feel like home.

From classic Leche Flan and colorful Halo-Halo, to our own Ube Mango Crepe featuring two beloved island favorites, ube and sweet Philippine mangoes, this is our kind of dessert spread.

Familiar favorites or something uniquely Amarela? There’s always room for one more sweet treat.

The locals we meet on our journeys teach what guidebooks never will. Our new Through Our Eyes series will explore Bohol through the people who know it best and call it home.

Jeremy from our Front Office Team shares one of his favorite recommendations: Alicia Panoramic Park, a place where breathtaking landscapes and quiet moments of reflection come together.

What place in Bohol has stayed with you?

This Mother’s Day, we honor Karyapa, a babaylan (pre-colonial priestess) and the first recorded native poet in Philippine history. A healer, guide, and voice of her community, she reminds us of the quiet strength and wisdom women have carried through generations.

To all mothers and women who lead with love, courage, and care, thank you for all that you do.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Amarela.

Did you know? A lattice is a carved or patterned framework traditionally used in Filipino architecture to let light and air flow naturally through a space.

Around Amarela, you’ll spot lattice in doors, walkways, railings, and quiet corners across the resort. Inspired by the ventanillas and woodwork of heritage homes, these designs once helped keep interiors cool long before modern ventilation.

Beyond their beauty, they are a quiet tribute to Filipino craftsmanship, tropical living, and the enduring artistry of Bohol.

Come slow down, look a little closer, and experience these thoughtful details for yourself at Amarela.

20 Years of Amarela

What began as something deeply personal, a love for Bohol, its culture and its quiet beauty, has grown into a place shaped by time, craft and shared moments.

For twenty years, Amarela has been more than a destination. It has become a place where traditions are shared, new memories are created and every stay becomes part of a larger story.

Daghang salamat to our guests who have walked through our doors and made Amarela part of their journey, to our dedicated team who bring care into every detail, to our industry partners who have supported us along the way and to Bohol, the place that continues to inspire us.

Did you know? A tarsier’s eyes are each as big as its brain, perfect for quietly watching the world at night.

At Amarela, this iconic Boholano creature appears in a different way. Look closely and you’ll find it carved into wood across the property, on doors, shelves, posts, and hidden corners. Each piece is handcrafted from local wood, shaped by our artisans to follow the natural grain and character of the material.

Some you’ll notice right away. Others reveal themselves only when you slow down.

It’s part of the experience, small discoveries that make a stay here feel personal and deeply rooted in place.

Take your time. Look a little closer.

Just off the Amarela garden, our bonsai sit in quiet stillness, their leaves catching the light, each tree shaped slowly with patience and care.

In the hush of the breeze and the rhythm of nature, a reminder that wellness is found in slowing down, breathing deeply, and simply being.
