When World War II broke out, Bucas Grande Island became a safe haven for refugees as the Japanese forces stationed in the area never harmed any single Socorronhon. This, scores of families from Leyte, Cantilan, Tago, General Luna and Mainit towns of Surigao Province and from other parts of the archipelago migrated to the island to seek refuge. The house of Don Albino Taruc, the founder of the Annual "Tinabangay" activity is the island, situated at Dagatan within the vicinity of the Inayaran Inlet in Barangay Sudlon served as the convergence point of said refugees coming with his family stayed at Dagatan for a while during war time before proceeding back to his home Province of Cebu. However, majority of the refugees settled for good in Bucas Grande Island even after the liberation.
Today, "Dagatan" House lives up to its historical role, willing to accommodate guests from all corners of the globe who want to savor the God-given beauty of the Sohoton Cove, in particular, and the entire Bucas Grande Island, in general.
