🌦️ EL NIÑO UPDATE: WHAT WE SHOULD KNOW ☀️💧

PAGASA has confirmed that a strong El Niño is currently active in the tropical Pacific and may intensify into a very strong El Niño before the end of 2026. Current climate models indicate that it could continue through the first half of 2027.

For the Philippines, El Niño generally increases the chance of below-normal rainfall, which may eventually lead to dry conditions, dry spells, and drought in some areas. This does not mean that the entire country will be dry all the time—rainfall can still occur, and some western areas may even experience periods of above-normal rainfall while Habagat is active.

PAGASA’s latest climate outlook covers October 2026 to March 2027, so the coming months are important for monitoring water supply, agriculture, livestock, vegetation, and the risk of grass or forest fires.

• Conserve water whenever possible
• Store water responsibly and avoid unnecessary wastage
• Protect crops, plants, and livestock from prolonged heat and dryness
• Avoid activities that may start grass or forest fires
