Tavolini Floors — Additional Options
Beyond the wood itself, every floor is shaped by what happens at the surface. Here are the six finishing techniques that define the character of a Tavolini floor.
01 · Finishing Coating
Transparent or coloured hardwax oil — penetrates the fibre rather than sitting on top.
Palette: 300+ colours, including custom colour matching.
Protective layers: 5 layers · 95 g/m² for private spaces. 7 layers · 105 g/m² for public spaces such as restaurants and hotels.
02 · Surface Brushing
Mechanical removal of soft fibre exposes the dense part of the texture.
— Micro: 0.5–1 mm · restrained relief, soft to the touch.
— Deep: 1.5–2 mm · pronounced texture, tactile depth.
03 · Distressed Bevels
Hand-worked edges that read as a century of use rather than a single day of installation. Each bevel is treated individually — no two pieces share the same edge profile. Single passage for restraint, double for full character.
04 · Maximum Aging — Reactive Style Finish
A combined treatment for floors that read as if salvaged from another century.
— Brushing: 2 mm
— Bevels: double distressed
— Surface variation: 0.2–0.4 mm
— Varnish: 5 layers · gloss 40
— Smoking: 0.2–0.3 mm · 4–5 shades
05 · Available Thicknesses
11, 13, 15, 18, 21 mm. The most common thickness we offer is 15 mm, with a 3.8 mm top layer in a two-layer engineered construction. Custom variations available on request.
06 · Wood Smoking
Colour penetrates the full depth of the working surface (top layer) — delivering a naturally rich, deep tone without any additional staining. Ammonia reacts with the tannins in the wood, so the colour goes through the fibre, not over it
