Today, June 10, 2026, is Dia de Portugal, de Camões e das Comunidades Portuguesas - national day of Portugal.

It is observed every year on June 10 and is a public holiday across the country.

The day commemorates the death of Luís de Camões in 1580, widely regarded as Portugal’s greatest poet and the author of Os Lusíadas. It also celebrates Portuguese culture, history, and communities around the world.

Just to say .... In the hope it puts a few minds at rest ... We noticed a step-change improvement at Faro Airport, both on departure and arrival in the last few days. ✈️

The passport control departures room is newly configured. More organised, more scanner machines and staff directing travellers. Quick and easy.

And what a relief at 10.20 last night (June 9). Feeling fed up and weary after a delayed flight, we eyed the Faro passport control queue with trepidation. BUT ... SWIFT AND EFFICIENT. Through in 20 minutes. I have never known the queue move so fast. 😊

System (shown in video) to organise the queue helps enormously. Multiple manned passport desks open. More passport scanner machines installed (though not used when we landed). More direction from staff to point travellers towards shorter queues at desks.

Obrigada Faro Airport 🛫

And another 'muito obrigado' to taxi transfer firm Funny Orange Tours. Despite our delays they were there for us. We usually book Uber or Bolt but I struggle to see cars in broad daylight let alone at night. Seeing a nice Portuguese driver waiting with your name emblazoned on a sign is worth its weight in gold. 🥇
