Our Story

The Apartments

We first came across the property in 2002 and were inspired to rebuild it and revitalize the landscape. Our aim was to create a comfortable atmosphere where our guests could feel at home. Right from the start of the renovation, we decided to retain the integrity of the old structure. This helped guide and give us ideas for the restoration. As the original stone wall was strong, we left it standing and built around it.

With the help and ideas of our international volunteers (who stayed and volunteered on our farm), the completion of the Eco Apartments was made possible. We have 8 apartments of various sizes, built from local and traditional Portuguese materials. Our ceilings are made from eucalyptus and bamboo canes, clay and straw for the walls, stones from the river for the bathrooms, and the floors are hand-made terracotta. To decorate the apartments, we used clay and created many beautiful designs and patterns--unique to each room.

Directly outside the apartments you can find a handmade clay pizza oven, barbecue, and an open air sitting/dining area for general use. There is also an area for the division of rubbish where you can find containers for glass, plastic, food waste, paper, and general rubbish.
