• MADEIRA REWARDS THE CURIOUS 🌿
One of the biggest mistakes you can make here is trying to explore Madeira strictly according to a checklist.
Pico do Areeiro. Fanal. Seixal. Porto Moniz. Santana. Done.
Except… you haven’t really seen Madeira.
The magic of this island often happens between the famous places.
It’s the tiny road disappearing into the mountains. A levada with almost nobody around. A viewpoint without a name on the usual tourist maps. A forest that suddenly disappears into the clouds. A random turn that ends with an incredible view over the ocean.
🥾 Sometimes you need to walk.
🚗 Sometimes you need to drive.
🌦️ And very often you need to change your plans because Madeira has completely different ideas about the weather.
I spend a huge amount of time exploring this island - hiking its trails, checking roads, searching for viewpoints, returning to the same places in different weather and at different times of day.
And that’s exactly why Madeira still fascinates me.
You can return to the same mountain ten times and get ten completely different experiences. Clear skies, clouds below your feet, fog, dramatic light, sunset, rainbows… Sometimes even the place you thought you knew feels completely new.
So if you’re coming to Madeira, don’t just collect locations.
Give yourself time to actually experience the island.
And if you want to discover Madeira beyond the obvious tourist checklist - follow me. I’m constantly exploring the island and sharing what I find. 🌋🥾
