This is Mark…
Tried to teach himself to kitefoil, but every session ended the same way — crashing straight after the waterstart. 💥
He booked two 1:1 days with me in Portland to sort it out.
Classic twintipper habits were holding him back:
✅ Weight dumping onto his heels
✅ Kite left low after the waterstart
✅ Front hand coming off the bar
Over the two days we worked through a range of fixes before narrowing it down to the key changes:
✅ Keeping the kite high after the initial waterstart
✅ Weight forward, riding the board off the foil
✅ Both hands staying on the bar while foiling
By the end of day two, Mark was foiling confidently in both directions — upwind, across wind and downwind. 🤙
Small technical habits like these are so easy to pick up when you’re self-teaching, and really hard to spot on your own. A couple of days of focused coaching can save months of frustration.
